Four Winds Super C

Looking at class C's this weekend. My dealer showed us a Four Winds Super C on a Ford F-550 chassis (diesel). This unit looks different than other super Cs I've looked at (Jayco Seneca, etc.). It utilizes a Ford Super Duty pickup type of cab albeit with the F-550 chassis.

Having experience with the Ford Super Duty, I am aware that some repairs on the diesel engine are accomplished by "lifting the cab" for access. How would these types of repairs be accomplished on this unit? Dealer had no answers for my questions.

This issue is different in the case of a "Seneca type" unit with the engine out front and a doghouse that tips out of the way, or is easily removed, to provide terrific engine access.

I like the rest of the unit and like the Ford Super Duty/diesel chassis. Just concerned with a potential service/repair nightmare at some point in the future.

I'd contact the MFG directly if the dealer isn't bright enough to know. I'd also check w Ford Service regarding servicing on their F550 Chassis.

I was at a dog show this past weekend and saw 3 new 38' custom garage style units built on the new F550. I was envious. 😉

We own a 2014 33sw on f550. According to our Ford medium duty dealer it is all serviceable now without removing the cab, they claim that was the older f diesel models. Good luck. Do a search on here, there are a handful of topics about some of the issues with this model. I had plenty.

halla, were your problems with the Four Winds portion or the Ford portion of the unit?

Zero issues with my F550 diesel chassis, but the coach has had some minor issues, nothing that hasn't been easy to fix. On another note I've owned a lot of differnent rvs over the years, and I have yet to find a brand name that hasn't had some issues........ Obviously some of the issues we experience are unacceptable quality control/craftsmanship but luckily some of the minor stuff sometimes is better if I just fix them right myself then to see the rv sit down at a dealership/repair facility weeks in end for a simple fix.

Afternoon, does the recall only affect the 2014 chassis? Our 2014 33SW is built on a 2013 F550 chassis, googled it but have not found the recall yet.

Thanks

Says it is recall 14E03 for selective catalyst reduction. Doesnt say if any other years are included. 1-866-436-7332 for more info.

You can also simply search here (just enter your truck's VIN):
https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/

14E03 is reportedly a simple flash on the ECM to correct an issue with the "Selective Catalyst Rediction Program"...and was already corrected on the 2015 models.

Safe travels

I got that recall too. Kind of glad, it's going to force me to have the driveshaft, check engine lights, and the engine fan clutch issue checked out.

Knock on wood. We have had no issues with the truck portion. Just have to figure out where to have it serviced. No medium duty Ford dealers near us that have a 14' service door. They dont like working on them outside at 10 degrees.
