Fresh Water Tank Size

I was looking at Fleetwood product today and the fresh water was 35 gallons. This is a 30 ft. C. Why are the tanks so small? I was hoping for 50 gallons. I know weight can be a problem but with 35 gallons you sure cannot boondock for very long. I have owned 32 and 34 foot Class A's and they had 55 and 60 gallon capacities. I think Bigfoots are 50 gallons.

Fleetwood carries 60 gal fresh, 35 gal grey, and 35 black or so normally on the 32 ft. C. You may want to check those numbers again.

Unless FW's brochures are wrong both the 2005 and 2007 Tiogas have 30 gallon fresh. 3 models have 35 fresh. This is up to ""31 models. I did not check newer units that are 32 ft but I don't want a 32".

44 Fresh. 37Black. 30 Grey.
We can dry camp for 3 nights but usually have FHU so it's not an issue for us.

The tanks do vary by models and also manufacturers. Noticed that this year when I was looking. Even the holding tank sizes vary by model and sometimes you will have a larger grey tank capacity on a smaller size model and chassis. I do a fair amount of boondocking and came to the conclusion that it normally always ends up being one of the holding tanks which necessitates the need to move. You can always add water to the fresh tanks via the gravity fill. I do use bottled water for drinking. Sometime even use paper plates, and other means to limit the amount of gray tank fill.

Fresh water is probably the least important tank as far as size. You can easily add more water, especially if you've got a gravity fill. You can dump it practically anywhere...it's water.

The black and gray are more critical. Once it's in the tank, you've got to find an approved place to empty those tanks. They are the limiting factor when dry camping. I'd take a rig with a small FW tank but relatively generous black and gray tanks over a rig with a big FW tank and small B & G tanks.

Just glancing at the 2007 brochure, they have 30-35 gal FW but 35 gal +/- B & G tanks. That's not bad considering some class A's come with a pair of 40 gal tanks. You could refill the water tank once or twice while camped and have room in the B & G tanks, depending on how you conserve, use other facilities, etc.

My little 22' fleetwood has a "70 gallon" fresh tank. The gravity fill is about 4 inches above the top of the tank, directly to the rear on the back of the MH. If I top it off and then drive anywhere I loose a good 20 gallons out of the not at all sealed fill cap. I usually fill it to a little above 3/4, getting ~50 gallons out of it.

My guess is people looking at them with their eyes see the shiny things and don't pay attention to the numbers that could be important.
