Full Time RVing
I am putting together some figures on what is the annual cost of being a full time RVer vs living in a home. Our plans are to sell out to the bare walls and be a full timer. I know the annual cost of home ownership. Just curious to see if RVing is less expensive.
We are looking for a well cared for Class C, MB, turbo diesel with split bed in the back.
Any help would be appreciated.

For a quick answer, it depends.
The two biggest expenses, fuel and site rental, are controllable. But, one can still spend a lot of money on eating out, entertainment and miscellaneous.
We have a F250 and a fifth wheel, both paid for. We volunteer 6-8 months a year and get a free site. We boondock a lot and look for the cheap parks. We often stay at casinos, city ,county, state and federal parks, Moose lodges and VFW posts. We started full time 6 years ago and have been in 35 states. And, we still have about the same amount of money in the bank that we started with. We have $2900/month coming in.
I am going to quit RV'ing about 3 days before they shovel dirt in my face. I have enjoyed the past 6 years more than I did the previous 66.

There are so many variables including how much you want to travel, how fancy campgrounds would you be looking for, how often are you planning to stay in a place as monthly rates tend to be more affordable, how plan to spend your time as a full timer?, etc. Can you share a little bit of info about what you have thought about these?
Some of the things in consideration based on what you shared are: A MB Class C is probably about a hundred thousand or so, fuel in my experience runs $50-$100/ day depending on how much you travel per day.
Please let us know more about your thinking and I am sure friends in this forum will be able to offer you some info.

How much does S&B cost you.......?
You can spend same, more or less.....depends on YOUR lifestyle, needs, wants and current debts
We FTd for 7 yrs.
We were Debt Free prior ....debt free during...still debt free
We spent roughly $2000/month doing anything/every thing we wanted during our travels....which we did weekly.
Some folks we met could do it on $5k month and some did it on $1200/month

Short answer: Who cares? You either want to full time or you don't. If it's a purely financial decision, you need to ask yourself if full timing is what you really want to do. If you do, you'll make it happen.
Other short answer: Depends. You could spend far less, for more or just about the same. Depends on what you travel in and how you like to travel.

Short answer is ...If you are currently living comfortably on your income, you will be able to live comfortably full time rving. No one can answer your question with specifics because it all depends on life style. Living with in your means requires budgeting, regardless of monthly income. Can I do it, was my biggest concern when I began thinking about going fulltime. There are many ways to fulltime and many variables, concerning how you do that. If you are willing to state your monthly income, we can give you specifics on how you could do it. There are many fulltimers doing it with only SSI.

Short answer; I can't imagine that long term Rving is less expensive. What I mean is that eventually the RV is worth nothing. Most homes appreciate.
If we're talking more about simplifying and living on as small of a budget as possible than some manage to do it while RVing.

It's a complicated comparison...take into consideration a couple if things:
Exit costs (When you leave the road, you'll have to replace S+B including contents.)
Faster depreciation on RV since it will be used 24/7.
Potentially higher insurance on RV as FTer.
Our decision after analysis was to half-time. It is the same overall cost vs full timing. Everyone's situation will vary. We have no mortgage and would have had to store stuff. RV will last longer since it is stored inside when not in use.
Half-timing keeps everything fresh but we have the perfect set-up.

To tag onto my previous answer, if you're looking at exit strategies you're probably doing it wrong.
Yeah, RV's depreciate. But thanks to the housing bubble, we lost money on our previous home of 15 years. And RV's, like the Sprinter types the OP is talking about cost far less than a home in most markets. Even if you finance it, the payment is probably less than your average apartment and at the end of that lease you get nothing in return.
Honestly, looking at it as a less vs more question misses the point. It's far easier to rent an apartment to live in. But most of us aren't looking for a roof over our head. We want the freedom and flexibility full timing offers. Wondering if full timing is cheaper is a bit like the tail wagging the dog.
Assess your income, make a budget and find what style of RV and full time lifestyle if that budget. We all wonder if we can make it work and if the lifestyle is affordable. But then we learn that full timing is as varied as any lifestyle. Just about anyone can afford to live full time in an RV. It's just a matter of what and where.
