I'm not sure of all the details. At times the nozzle may drip on your pants or you could get some on your hands and that may be the cause of the smell. I agree with the above poster to check the lines from the front to the back to see where the smell is coming from. If the smell is only there for a few minutes after you fueled up it may have just been spillage. Also check the line between your generator and your gas tank.
