Generator is haunted

I just bought this RV. It has a Onan Microquiet 4000 genny.
I thought I would change sparkplug and oil as maintenance.
The Genny seemed a bit harder to start initially than I thought normal (but then this is my first experience with an RV genny)
This is how it went:
1) changed spark plug. started genny and it ran as before.
2) changed oil.......tried to start.....would not fire unless I used ether
3) Tried again, this time manually closing down choke.
Genny fired right up, ran normal.
4) shut down, tried to start again without manually closing choke. Would not fire until I "did" manually close down choke.

What could changing oil & spark plug do to cause this?
And if it is just coincidence, what does anyone suggest? (As I said, it seemed harder to start than It should be initially)

My gen has seen better days. One thing I do the seem to get it started when it is giving me grief so hold down the battery connect switch that connects the house batteries to the start battery. Seem the extra juice seems to help it start. Good luck.

Do you have the right spark plug gap ?

Set it for .025.
As said, it started up after switching plugs. It was only after I changed oil that it would not start (I know, doesn't make any sense).
I can regap it ,larger or smaller, which way do you think I should go? I'm just guessing myself.

My Generator has a low oil level switch that will prevent starting, but I can't imagine that came into play.......all the choking in the world can't overcome an ignition disconnect.

More data:
After letting the gen cool down, I tried to start it. The choke partially closed and it started up, ran fine.
Apparently, After it warms up, and the choke no longer comes into play, it will not start. Unless I tickle the choke manually.
Does this give anyone any ideas about what is malfunctioning?

How's the altitude setting?

On my last maintenance w/my genset I disconnected the fuel line and put it in a bottle with a mix of fuel and Sea Foam 'till it ran dry. She's been purring ever since.

You should be able to troubleshoot from this manual. I read every post from multiple blogs and most lean towards #1 clean the carb #2 bad control board #3 Low oil sensor #4fuel shut off solenoid. I also purchased used and generator would not run. My 2012 would only run for a couple seconds so 1) Drove RV to burn off old fuel down to close to Empty 2) Filled to 1/2 tank with new fuel 3) Added Seafoam 4)Pulled fuel line off and primed til clear . 2 qts of milky looking fuel came out. 5)pulled carb off and cleaned with spray carb cleaner. There was hard varnished particles in fuel bowl. 6) used compressed air and blew out passages 7) Checked fuel shut off solenoid 8)Changed spark plug and oil (make sure oil is topped off it is slow to fill) 9) cranked up generator and turned Altitude adjustment screw till smooth running. Black cap on screw was cracked so I was a little suspect that it had been messed with. Good luck hope this helps.

AND REMEMBER RUN THE GENERATOR AT LEAST AN HOUT PER MONTH. We fire the generator when we reach the camping spot just for the sake of running it. I run the ac so it gets a good load or in the winter we have an electric heater. We camp year round so nothing gets a real long sit.

You may still have to prime it after running it. Have you pressed the prime button till the light on the rocker switch lights up?
