Goodyear vs Michelin
on my Sprinter/Fleetwood RV. I have Goodyears on it now, with about 15,000 miles and I'm getting thumping noise at 55+ mph. I see no bubbles and it's not a flat spot, more like a rumbling. It does show some wear on outer tread section but it is consistent where the front of each knob is lower than the back of same knob. Am thinking of switching to Michelin. Thoughts?

I know your feelings about Michelins Mel... and I had the sidewall cracks.. but I must say.. my tire date codes were 2611 and they gave me an 80% discount on new ones just a month ago...
So, while they've had issues... they've stood behind the product.. can't ask for much more than that from any manufacturer

A tire usable for more than 3-4 years would be a step in the right direction.

How old are your tires? Mileage is only part of the equation. If there 5-7 yrs. old they need replacement. If there only a couple yrs. old, you may have another issue, which is creating your problem. I'd have them checked by a pro. I am a member of the Goodyear club. If you have a problem away from home you can always find a Goodyear dealer. Not so with some of the less popular/cheaper brands.

Sounds like the famous, or infamous, Goodyear "rivering" problem. It's especially prone on the front axle application. Had GY on the front of our Monaco when we bought it and it was a horrible ride at highway speeds. The first think I did was replace the front tires with Hankooks (pick anything but Goodyear for this problem). The rears did not have the problem and were fine.

X2. I had the same rivering experience with Goodyears. You are right, they are infamous for it. Goodyear offered me a warranty replacement price that was more than I could have bought them for outright. I also had a sidewall blowout on a Goodyear tire that was barely 4 years old. That is when I threw away the whole set of Goodyears and replaced them with Michelins. No tire problems at all in the 9 years since then (on two sets of Michelins).

Don't buy Michelins, I have had good luck with them on all my Heavy Haul Trucks, Trailers RV & Cars....And they are the worst riding Tires made!
