Getting ready to finalize our 1st class c purchase, little things keep popping into my head. Will a GPS unit work on the dash with the over cab bunk? I have a great unit i use in the Family vehicle, and just realized it may not work with the overhang...

Don't know about the newer all in one gps units but a few years ago the reception was spotty on the dash, read about laptop gps programs with permanent mount outside receivers/ant and did the same, and while I was at it I also added the outside ant for the cell booster just as I saw done.
The results were astounding and this will be the first thing we do when we buy again.

I have a Magellan Road Mate that does work well when we are in the lands east of the western mountains. Through the mountains it leaves a little to be desired for its inability to constantly pickup good signal from multiple satellites. A few years ago I finally decided to try Microsoft Streets and Trips in our laptop and a Holux GPS receiver that mounts on the roof of the bunk (I had to glue down a small piece of metal for the magnet to stick to) and we have yet to lose signal on our mountainous voyages.
We are being give one of those little laptops to use as a dedicated unit while traveling. Friends of ours from Ohio came out west to the Island to visit and during conversation we found they were having similar lose of signal problems with their Garmin.
I am getting

I have a Garmin Nuvi and my Verizon smart phone that both work with no problems.
I also have an EZ pass for tolls, but I got the transponder that attaches to my front license plate rather the wind shield.

Funny you say that, we also have ezpass (NJ) but when I called asking for the plate mount not windshield they didn't know what I was talking about. The cab over blocks the ezpass from being read, I found if I plass the ezpass in the bottom right of the windshield it will read about 25% of the time haven't found a better spot then that.

Possum, the outside mount makes the most sense to me and you confirm what the people who I read about say, I think they said since the outside receiver was put on the vehicle they have never lost the signal.
More than one person has told me that the same is true for the external cell phone antenna with the booster but when you think about things it common sense.
