I didn't look for reviews on it but I suspected what Maddawgs alluded to below, that you get what you pay for. I don't believe that I want to go the cheap route. Not if it doesn't offer the type of protection that we need for our MH's. Yes, I too put stock in what others say in there reviews. Some are blatantly critical while others are so praiseworthy that I suspect the very company who is selling the product will actually have someone from the company write a flowery review just to drum up business. So I try to read between the lines and go from there.
Yes, this is a great site for us newbies! I have made it a habit to click on this site just about every night trying to learn something new every day. I've got a long way to go!

Isn't Jimmy Flagg great? he sold me our Navion. Wasn't pushy at all. They have been very helpful to me.

I'm going to Lake Tahoe on Sunday for a few days. I should get my surge protector and extension cord tomorrow so I'll be all set. . . . until someone suggests that there's some other absolutely critical piece of equipment I need

I've been told this is an expensive hobby/way of life, but so far I love it

Yes we love Oxford, moved here just over 10 years ago. It still has that small town feel. If your hungry Carl's will definitely fill you up. Made the mistake of sitting at the counter and actually finishing the mountain of food they give you, turned to talk to my wife, turned back and they had filled my plate again , I was full for a week. You are pretty lucky where you are, just a few minutes from Wrights Chicken (yummy). Yup Clara Barton was born here as well as the Joslin's of the Joslin Diabetes Center.
I love Flagg's. It is dangerous when I go there. To many nice toys to tempt me (those big DP's keep calling me).

Here is a ton of info for you to read in your spare time from another forum called rv.net. With these two forums I have learned (and continue to learn) a lot. Have fun in Tahoe, we hope to make a westerly trip in the future. Hope the link works.

I am beginning to find out that this is an expensive hobby! I'm finding ways to spend money every day!

Hi Todd: I have another question that I hope is not dumb. I got my surge protector today. I want to make sure I'm connecting the right plug to the RV and the other plug to the extension cord I will use to the electrical post. The surge guard seems to have one cord that is shorter on one end and the other on the other end is a little longer. So the end that's shorter gets plugged into the RV and the longer one is the one that goes to the extension cord to the electrical post? I hope you don't get sick of my questions!

Hi Sandi,
No problem at all, I don't mind helping so please don't be afraid to ask. And remember the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. (you know the one where you go "I should have asked") Congrats on the purchase. There should only be one way to connect it. The 30 amp cord from your RV should have a male connector that would plug into the female connector on the surge guard. At the other end of the surge guard there should be a male connector, you would plug this into the female connector of the park pedestal or your extra 30 cord. If you used your extra 30amp cord the you would plug the male connector into the female connector of the park pedestal. Use the last pic I had sent as a reference. I hope this helps you out. If you are still unsure, I have found most of the people in campground to be very helpful. I usually feel safe asking a nearby camping family or the campground staff. I will be offline until Sunday but If you have any other questions post them here and I will answer then. Have a good trip.

All I can say is thank goodness for Todd. i have been following our surge protector thread with rapt interest. I liked his explanation that followed.

Yes, he's been wonderful. Hope he doesn't regret responding to my first post. I've heard campers are the nicest people and Todd surely is a fine example.

I ended up getting my surge protector for $218.50 because Amazon goofed. The packing slip showed a lower price than I was originally charged by $38.52. I called to question it and the rep said they had to charge what was on the site when I ordered. I protested, but they wouldn't budge. Then they sent me a survey asking if they solved my problem and I said no and asked them to call me again. The next rep was very sympathetic and said he had never seen this problem before. But he said they would honor the price on the packing slip and gave me a credit to use in the future. Just shows the old adage about the "squeaky wheel" is probably true.

I got the Surge Guard 34730. There wasn't any price fluctuation. Just a mistake on Amazon's part that worked in my favor. As I said before, Camping World has it on their Internet sale for $279 plus $16 shipping I think. Amazon has a number of the same brand and model number. Some sold by Amazon and some by third parties. I picked one sold by Amazon because they're easier to deal with than third parties. This proved true when I called about the price discrepancy. A third party would have done nothing. Good luck.
