Being brand new at RVing, I understand it's good to allow the black water tank to fill up at least 3/4 of the way before emptying. My first trip will be just a couple days and I doubt I'll fill it very much using the toilet. So, if I wish to add water to the black water tank in order to have enough in it in order to empty it what are the ways of doing that? Is it just by operating the toilet flush system repeatedly or are there other methods?

I found a stick and whittled it to a size that would hold the flush lever down.

Dont need to string out a hose!

Gotta keep any eye on the rising tide!

That, stick a hose in the toilet, or use a tank flush system if installed.

Some coaches, a minority, have the bath lav draining to the black tank. My previous coach was this way. Made it easy to add water to the black tank if desired to do so.

Current coach not that way. I have a gallon jug I use to add water down the toilet if needed.

Use the flush valve in the wet bay. Dual purpose.

I just hold the flush peddle down with my foot, but I could use the tank flush if I wanted to get out the other hose I reserve for that use

I always put 4 or5 gallons of water in the black tank before our trips. The slouching around of clear water helps keep the level censers clean plus it is not a good idea to start with an empty tank. Good luck on your new adventures and welcome aboard.

If you have a black tank rinse inlet then connect a water hose and flush it. If not I suppose your only option is to flush the toilet a bunch of times.

Wet bay? What's that? I'm driving a 2011 Freelander 30QB Class C if that matters?

Russ, the wet bay is that compartment where your dump valves are located.

My rig doesn't have such a compartment. The drains are out in the open. Thanks for the explanation, though. Now I know what a wet bay is

On ours it takes 4-5 gallons of water to fill up the drain pipe and leave some in the tank itself. I add about 5 gallons, the chemicals go in the last of the water so it gets into the tank itself and not the drain at the valve.
