How to contain items stored above "C" cab while driving

Does anyone have a safe and secure method of storing items in the over the cab bed area? I am concerned that items might come flying down if we have to stop suddenly.

We try not to put too much up on the bunk above the cab area. Even so we do store some oft used things up there. Stopping will not be your concern as the momentum will take them to the front of the area, not back to the open portion of the MH. If you really feel ambitious, you could rig up some tie downs to keep alitems secure. lMy big concern was the movement of anything up there rubbing something I didn't want to show wear. But seriously, we have a few things up there, just try to make sure they won't slide side to side. I've had small items fall on my head when setting off (box of cards), just need to pack a bit smarter and accelerate slower.


As others have said braking isn't an issue, since everything is thrown forward anyway.

We used folding crates to hold our stuff. I thought about bungie cords, but there wasn't a decent place to attach them without adding unsightly hooks or eyes. I also thought about a spring rod for bathtub, between the sidewalls. Neither seemed to be needed.

Once, when we got a bit sloppy about putting stuff in the crates, I had a shoe fall on my head while driving. I was startled but unhurt. I turned to my wife and said: "Now I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop!"

I wish I had a picture of our last trip just this weekend. In short, we store anything and everything up in the bunk of our class C that we don't want floating around everywhere else.

Let's see...dog crate, guitar, clothes, coats, purse, camera, small ottoman type feet things, wrapped presents (birthdays), toys... you name it. That's the good part about a Class C bunk area - put your stuff up there.

The only thing we had come down was an XBOX...now that could have been bad. It moved from some very bumpy roads and kind of hopped around. I put it too close to the edge. This trip we used some pillows to wedge it in and it was fine.

As long as the stuff is kept away from the edge, we've never had problems.

My 2015 Coachman Leprechaun has a removable net that is secured on the top and bottom of the overhead cab area. Keeps items up there..Nice design..

Yes, I never had any issue...it's the stuff behind you need to worry about in sudden stops.

As long as nothing is teetering on the edge, I've never had anything come down. Sudden starts perhaps but I've never been able to do well with my quarter mile times

I added safety catches to the overhead cabinets above the dinette.

25 years driving a class C, usually allot of stuff stored up on the overhead bed while traveling (sleep bags, tents, M/C helmets, duffle bags, water skiis...), never once had anything fall down. Sudden stops push forward not back, and not enough "performance" while accelerating to actually push stuff backwards.

For me personally, I don't put anything hard in the overhead bunk while traveling. It's not the emergency stops I'm concerned about. It's the risk in an accident for passengers that are seated beyond the cab area. If I'm not concerned if the item ended up hitting me in the head, it gets a pass for going above.

Another poster that installed catches for the cabinets has a good idea. Our cabinets click to lock while traveling. I like that for a bit of safety too. Yes i know that the safest spot for travel is the cab; just don't have that option for all with 4 people traveling. That will change in a few more years to 2.

We store extra bedding, clothing, jackets, and dry goods that don't weigh too much up there. We have three plastic bins that one side is see through and flips down so we don't have to move them to see or get at what's in them
Rubbermaid Access Storage Tote
and a bin for dirty clothes. Took out the mattress and put down the rubbery no-slide shelf liner so nothing moves around.

When we have anything more than extra bedding or clothes I leave the filler cushion in so nothing can fall into the cab but so far nothing has fallen.
