Hello, all,

Can anyone recommend a paint shop or painter in the San Diego area that can paint a 29' on the cheap, but does quality work? I would like to get this coach painted

Tijuana!
Had lots of work done there on hot rods and MGs in the 60s & 70s. No so sure I would try it today.

Usually "Inexpensive" (or cheap) does not go hand in nhand with "quality". You will get what you pay for in general.

I would try a search on the subject. Don't exactly know about the area you are inquiring about but there have been threads on Mexico but I don't know if that's somewhere I'd visit. I'd also have to agree that "inexpensive" and quality don't usually go han in hand. Good luck.

Go to Tijuana and I'm sure they will paint it in the street. You can get the free dust & etc. along with the paint job. I doubt if anyone there has a paint booth for a motorhome, plus their paint is not of the same quality. Take TXiceman's advice. Pay a bit more and get a quality job.

Don't know where you are in San Diego County, but here's a suggestion:

Take a drive down to Main Street in Chula Vista (the original west section of Main between 805 & 5, not the new area recently built out east). There are many paint & body shops in that area, and the competition between them should get you an excellent job at a low price. If you can, take the RV with you so that any written estimates you get will be close to final price. I've had auto and RV body work in that area but it was 20-30 years ago -- any specific name recommendations I could make would be useless today.

Might want to also look at the paint & body shops out by Brown Field (airport) on Otay Mesa. While out there you could also look in the numerous salvage yards around the airport for any parts or pieces your RV may need. :-)

Maybe Freeway Trailer Sales in Escondido - they did some extensive accident repairs on my son's MH and he was pleased with the work.

I left the SD area in 76 for WA state. At that time there were many quality shops in TJ you just had to stay away from tourist areas and bars. I grew up in Chula Vista in the late 50-60s. Spent many days south of the boarer, it was a different place in those days. The Hot rodders from all over Calif came down for paint and upholstrey. You just had to find the good ones. There was a muffler shop that could build the best header and exhaust systems. Ther were many 18 wheelers painted there, they did have the paint booths, and very talented air brush artist. But I have not been back to TJ since 76. I now spend my winter in S. Texas

I still remember getting my 1966 Mustang painted by 1-Day in Chula Vista back in 1980.

They didn't even wash the car first and of course the dirt was all under the shiny new paint.

I'm sure they would have done better work in TJ. Should have gone there.

The way our economy is going, soon people will drive from Mexico up here to get cheap work done!

Things in Mexico are getting closer to US prices.
