Inverter and auto-gen-start in Thor Chateau/FourWinds 31

Been doing a lot of research on these coaches, specifically the 31E (bunkhouse). If we get a coach like this, I'll need to be able to work from the coach with computers/printers without having to run the generator all the time. I don't think this coach comes with an inverter and auto-generator-start, so was wondering if anyone had had any experience in installing an inverter and auto-gen-start on this family of coaches...

Any ideas?

The auto start is very easy...just order the Onan optional auto-start for the QG4500. It is plug and play...route the panel where you like.

There have been 2 types in the past (set for voltage or voltage and temp for AirCon). Get what you need.

The inverter is a more complex topic. The factory Xantrex1800 is OK, but not available on the 31E, feeds only the TV and 1-2 outlets, plus it is modified sine wave...so not the best for sensitive gear.

You can add point of use inverters as needed, add an inverter to the outlet circuit with auto transfer, or add a whole house inverter...as you see fit. Lots of options there.

We added a whole house like this (only much bigger at 2000W/3000W peak)...very easy DIY:

Best luck

Onan currently make one auto- start - the EC-30. They previously had a wireless unit - the EC-30W - that they no longer make . It was a wireless unit that required the installation of a box at the generator thru a wiring harness that communicated wirelessly with the control unit in the coach that plugged into an electrical outlet . It is no longer offered - there were considerable issues with loss of communications in this forum. It could be considered "simple" to install.
The EC-30 requires considerable wiring . I installed one in a prior class C. It has an 18 pin connector on the rear that connects to many things but is very feature rich. It can be activated by low voltage, the loss of AC power, or a thermostat request for AC. I suggest you download the manual containing the installation iinstructions and determine if you could install it. You will definitely need a proper wiring diagram for your coach. I believe the standard dealer labor time to install is in the area of 8 to 10 hours.
From personal experience, it is a complex job. I believe the previous post was referencing the old wireless unit.. if you are purchasing an inverter, Magnum make an auto start module for their psw inverters that is likely much simpler - you might want to check that option. Good luck,

Not sure how it would work, but a UPS do the job. They got a decent one at Sam's for $160.
