Inverter Generators

Anyone using Inverter generators in their Motor Home and if So what size/make and where do you Mount/store the unit? My old Onan is shot
and I plan on replacing it with a Inverter type. All comments will be greatly appreciated.

Onan now makes an inverter Generator line, The big advantage of the Inverter jobs over your classis RV type ONAN is fuel consumption. Prices are competitive and size is as well.

That said, I do not know anyone doing it that way on a motor home... but it is an interesting idea.

Questions to consider:

1. What are you going to power with it? Big loads like A/C and Microwave, or just TV, etc.

2. How often will you use it? If a lot, probably want a built-in. If a little, portable should be fine.

3. Is your RV gas or diesel? Do you have propane? Consider your fuel choice based on what you already have available.

I have a 1KW that I use when dry camping (like at the Alq. Balloon Fiesta) It was left over from our 5th wheel days. I carry it in a rubbermade tote in the basement. It is all the power I need to top up the batteries and watch a little TV. We spend 14 day in Alq and only use a few gal of gas. The 7.5KW is not as thriffty and is a little louder.

I carry two Honda 2000kw, can run seperate or both when needing AC. Builtin Genset is to loud and vibrates to much for my liking. Both fit right in a side storage bay.
