Wife and I have never had or know anyone that owns a RV. We have been doing all our road traveling by Car and staying at great hotels/motels. Well we decided RV'ing as our new adventures. Of course we no nothing about RV's and are looking to buy used. Well we found a RV at a dealer lot with a floor plan that we liked. It's a 1997 Jayco Eagle Class C 29.5 ft with 17k miles. We would like to keep our RV purchase for a Few years before we buy New just to get the experience and decide if RV'ing is the dream we think it is for us, as far as traveling to see our beautiful Country. So, build quality is priority as a start so any thoughts on Jayco would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link, gives me a good ball park to start I'm also looking at a 1999 Winnebago Minnie 24ft with 36k and fully self contained 4k onan generator huge awning sleeps up to six rear queen bed rear shower/bath, four person dinette/bed swivel chair dbl door fridge 3 burner stove with oven and a microwave. dbl stainless steel sink lots of storage inside and out. also has outside radio and shower. I prefer the Winnebago Minnie vs the Jayco just tiring to get a Quality comparison can't find any info on the Jayco. Initial Build quality is my number one priority at lease I'll have a start with the inspection of maintenance from previous owner/owners. BTW the Jayco was listed at 17999 dealer and the Winnebago at 21500 OBO private party.

You're right maintenance is a big deal. If they took care of it, they should have the records to prove it. A rig that has been sitting might have few miles, but it may also have developed some issues from sitting and neglect.

I did not see any Jaycos when we were were looking. As for build quality, barring a luxury motorhome like a Foretravel, Winnebago was undeniably the best made. A big plus for Winnebago is they archive their manuals and schematics. You can download pretty much any information you need. And parts for Winnebagos of that era seem to be readily available.

I don't know if Jayco has that front window over the cab -- the one in the bunk area. If it does, check the area around the window inside and out for delamination. They are prone to leak.

Good luck with your search. Don't be afraid to ask questions about everything. There's a pretty good bunch on this forum.

Oh yeah, watch out for delamination on the sidewalls of any rig you're looking at. That can be prohibitively expensive to fix.

I can't comment on motor homes or anything powered but we owned a Jayco pop up and a designer 5er. Both units were well built and I couldn't have been happier with their customer service from their call center. Both served us faithfully while we owned them. I can certainly say that Jayco customer service is without equall. They go out of their way to see you happy.

We have owned 2 Jaycos and like them. The home
office is friendly and knowledgeable for infomation.
Their designer series seems to be more advanced
on older models that other rv's we looked at. No
going outside to light appliances or generator.
