King Dome Satellite

I have purchase a class c motorhome a few months back and it has a King dome satellite mounted on the roof. Model # 9704LP. Seems to me that it was dialed in for direct tv. I have dish network and it doesn't seem to work for the dish system. Read the book on it and it states pretty much it should work. Called King dome manufacture text support they said I have to buy a new satellite system to work for dish. If this is true why would there book tell me different? Does any body have any ideas to get this thing to work for dish. Hopefully enexspensive. Thanks in advance.

Check the manual (not the sales literature). If probably will require some dip switches be reset for Dish.

From the user manual:
Antenna configuration is a one time procedure that MUST BE COMPLETED before using your King-Dome antenna. Configuration may be done with the supplied wall mount controller or the #1844 Keypad

King Controls "loaned" me the 1844 keypad ($200) refundable deposit and then talked me thru the reprogramming procedure.

After I was sure it was working with my DISH receiver, I returned the keypad and got my deposit back. It was fairly simple to do.

The other option is to find a RV repair facility (mobile?) that has the tool and pay them to do it for you.

Dish Network made changes to their satellites that made the KingDome and some other dome systems obsolete. KingDome is either unable or unwilling to do software upgrades to make the system work with those changes and leave only an option to but a new system. Ours eventually even stopped working with DirecTV. I chose to replace mine with Winegard rather than another KingDome, that in time they may decide to no longer support so I will have to buy another. Hope this helps. Chuck

Kingdome doesn't use dip switches, its programmed through a keypad - you're thinking of Winegard.

Ours had the same model as you. They are supposed to be able to change form Dish to DirecTV and visa-versa using a sequence with the rocker switches. (push 10 times, wait for red light, etc.) It never did work. The tech said it was fried, indicated by it never being able to lock on and the lights stayed flashing. If it locked with a steady green or red even, it was salvagable.

After learning the 9704-LP wasn't in motion either, I got rid of it in favor of the Winegard Travler.

I attached the manual below. You don't have to have the keypad, but you can use it. Page 13 step 2 will give you the steps to program it for Dish.
