New to this Forum looking for some help w/pricing

Trying to buy a new 31ft class c and I'm at a loss at finding a fair price for the units I have been looking at. Any pricing tips or resources would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

I would check NADA and Kelly Bluebook prices, and look on RVTrader.com for the same model & year!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Checked all of those

Haven't been able to find pricing for a new unit. I know there is a large mark up on these units. Was trying to find out how much before making an offer. Thanks for the reply.

If you're looking for new pricing, try comparing different dealer websites for prices.

I have read a couple of sites where the estimated mark-up on new model year motor homes is around 30%. You should definitely have some room for negotiating from the dealer pricing.

Make sure you are looking at the MSRP and not some fictitious dealer price sheet. If not shown to you, ask the dealer for it. Often the factory will provide one if you ask them.

A typical dealer discount from MSRP is around 14%. You can probably do better with some bargaining, but the discounting varies a lot from dealer to dealer. Some won't go deeper than 15%, while others may go for 20% or even 30% once in awhile (high volume sales places or special pricing situations).

The dealer paid somewhere around 60% of the MSRP, but he has a lot of sales and delivery expenses (assuming he doesn't shirk his responsibility for prep), so it's not reasonable to expect anywhere near that much off.

Also be aware of add-on fees. Some dealers quote an attractive price but then add on fees for things that should have been included, e.g. a PDI fee or plain old "dealer fee". They may also be including things like "paint protection" (a wax job) or "interior protection" (Scotchguard spray) at a very steep price when you could get the same "protection" for much less elsewhere, or DIY.

For me, I would look at RVTrader, as recommended and look at 1 year old comparatives.. This will give you some idea of mark up and first year depreciation ...
Buying new is a tuff gig ... all you can do is price compare between dealers .... shopping, new or used, takes times .... so enjoy the search .....
and as stated above ... when you make an offer, make it be an "out the door" offer ... all of em seem to be good at tacking on extra costs ........ IMO

Thanks for your replies

Would be nice if RV buyers had a tool like the recent automotive web sights that report what percentages of us buyers paid.

A number of manufacturers put the MSRP of their units on their web sites. I believe Winnebago/Itasca, Fleetwood, Jayco and Nexus are among those that put their list prices on the web. There probably are others. I think somewhere around 25% off list price is considered a fair deal.

If your a Costco member and the dealer participates in Costco's program supply the dealer with your membership number and you will receive a better price. Otherwise negotiate for at least 25% off MSRP.
