Noob....water pump issues

Brand new rver here. Bought a 26' 1988 Mobile Traveler class c. Lots of issues but basically had it given to me so lots of room to put money in it.

Thanks so much for this forum. I've already learned how to fix the MANY leaks in the roof and several other things but I can't figure this one out yet.

When I put water in my fresh water tank to check that system out and turn on the pump the water is pumped back out both the fresh fill inlet AND the city water inlet. It will still flush the toilet and come out of the faucets but it pumps back out the inlets the whole time no matter what. The pump is also VERY loud.

Also, even though I don't have enough gas in the tank to run it shouldn't my Onan Emerald I Genset at least try to turn over? It didn't come with a coach battery, gotta get one of those, but have tried jumping it with no success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It Sound like you have a value that needs to be switched, it sounds like you fill via the inlet valve and then turn valve to keep it in the system. WIth my system you f ill fresh water tank through city water connection. Then switch valve after that. The city inlet has a one way valve which could be broken on your unit.

Most RV generators are tied to coach battery which has to have a decent charge to turn over the generator. Even with good battery many encounter starting issues often associated with poor grounding and or corroded battery connectors. Probably a good idea to take the time and check the grounds for everything - chassis battery, coach battery, and the generator itself - given the age of the rig they probably need some attention. Also - most built in generators are setup so the fuel line can't draw any gas if the rigs gas tank is less than 1/3 or 1/4 tank - something to keep in mind.

Suggest you write down the spec number of your generator and obtain an operators manual - smokstak.com has a Onan generator forum which is an excellent source for problem solving Onan's. Flightsystem.com is also another site which has problem solving tips for Onan generators - worth a look.
