Onan 4000 Fuel Filter
Has anyone installed some kind of extension coming off of the fuel pump to make it easier to change the fuel filter?
I changed my fuel filter today and it took quite a while since I had trouble getting it off from the access hole. So I had to get all the way to the fuel pump to unscrew the filter from the pump.
Just looking of thoughts to make this easier.

When I changed mine I used a deep socket from outside the generator compartment (11/16 if I remember right). Came right off, and I guess I was just lucky, but I had no real trouble starting the threads of the new one by hand. Some folks replace the filter with a fitting that the fuel hose will clamp onto and then place an in-line filter in the fuel line outside the generator compartment. Lot easier to change.

I tried using a deep socket and it was working well until it got jammed against other wires and hoses that run right on the side of the fuel line hose.
I though about installing an inline filter. I guess I would just have to change the in line filter more frequently than the one screwed onto the fuel pump?

Don't know about having to change the filter more often --- would depend on the effeciency of the in-line filter as compared to the Onan filter (which is also in-line). With a good quality in-line, I would think it shouldn't make a whole lot of difference, but if it does the in-line outside the generator housing would be a heck of a lot easier to change; just loosen two hose clamps, pull the old filter out, and insert the new one.

After 3 fuel pumps in 2 years I moved everything outside the generator box . New non Onan inline pump and filter. Much easier mounted on the frame.

Mike - after still having some trouble with my generator after the full service I performed a couple weekends ago, I'm still having some trouble. I have a fuel pump on order from Amazon and it should be coming in tomorrow. Im not 100% sure its my pump that is bad but I have run out of ideas. I'm thinking it might be showing signs of it about to quit completely.
How did you determine it was your pump that was the problem?

The fuel pump inside the Gen gets cooked pretty fast. FW sent me a inline fuel pump that mounts nearer the tank to solve my last gen problem. (I left the oem inline pump)

How hard was it to install the fuel pump that FW sent you?
I changed out my fuel pump yesterday. Also installed an additional inline fuel filter outside of the generator box.
Ran the generator without issue for about an hour yesterday. I will be out tailgating next weekend. Hopefully my problem is solved.

The job took about a hour and a half once I had the right parts. I mounted it inline along the frame where the existing 1/4" fuel line was. I bought a spare pump as they are cheap. $40.

Has anyone found a filter that will crossover for the Onan 149-2457 ? I just hate being limited to the Cummings dealer for replacements.

You can find that same filter on Amazon. That is where I have purchased all of my parts recently.
Fuel filter, air filter, spark plug, and fuel pump.

Onan 4000 Fuel Filter
You don't need the same filter or pump I replaced my pump and filter got a low pressure pump and filter at auto zone got a longer gas line and mount it on the outside makes it easier to replace when the pump and filter when it needs to be changed

How did you mount your fuel pump?
Only thing I could figure to do is bolt it directly to the outside.
