Over the cab bed for adults

Plan to have 3 adults with us as we travel (from a week to a month at a time).
Does any one use the bed over the cab for adults in their 50's, weight no issue my wife and I around 300 lbs combine. Just thinking if using the ladder would get old. I am a early to bed early to rise person so I don't want to use couch or table option. Thanks

We have a 2011 Fleetwood Tioga 31M, I'm 68 and 250 lbs and always sleep on the over the cab bed- wife sleeps late and I'm up at dawn- ladder easier to use with step stool at the bottom- bed more comfortable with 2 in gel foam mattress topper- it's now very comfortable

We bought our first RV (22') at retirement in 2002. I was 62 (225#), she was 57 (I don't know what she weighed, prolly 140#).

We put 75,000 miles on that RV over the next 12 years, traveling in all of the lower 48 states and most of Canada.

We used ONLY the upper bunk. I made several "Changes" to the overhead sleeping area to make things more comfortable. PM me if you'd like more details.

In 2014, we had 105K miles on the RV and we were 74 & 69. Still weighed about the same. We still had no trouble getting into the overhead, but 10 years down the road (at 84 & 79... Who knows).

We decided that we were going to keep on RVing and bought a 28 footer with a bed in the back.

At this point in YOUR lives and at your ages and weights, GO FOR IT! You won't have any problems.

Where's the TV?

If you're in bed early, and the others wish to watch a little TV or whatever, you don't want to be right next to it.

Otherwise, if you can get in and out safely, why not?

I have a Winnebago View i like the over cab sleeping area...especially when on the road the best place to sleep and my TV is over the door and can swing over so whoever is in the bunk has a 32 inch tv to see and i have another tv in the rear bed so no worries about who watches what..i also have side windows in the overhead to open when its hot to allow cross breeze at night perfect place to sleep!

I would think it just depends on the mobility of the person, not age. Maybe just ask those coming with you what they’d prefer, and if they would prefer to not sleep up in the cabover bed, maybe you could sleep up there? Or alternate?

Age 60 here and would have no problem getting up there. Only thing is, both of us usually get up at least once in the middle of the night to take care of, errr, business. If the person that needs to go is on the inside, then they'll be disturbing the person on the outside climbing over them to reach the ladder. Then after that, he or she has to make it down to floor level. Easy enough when wide awake but not so much while still half asleep.

70 here, DW is 73. No, she doesn't care if people know she robbed the cradle. In the MH, she sleeps on the sofa and I use the cab over. Haven't fallen in the middle of the night yet. I like it up there with the cross vent and a roof vent. Just have to remember not to sit up too quickly or that happens.

A limited-access double or queen bed is when one person has to get out to allow the other to get out.

Speaking from experience here with two different motor homes with limited access of one kind or the other. Getting up in the middle of the night once or twice per night, will be more challenging with an upper bed than a main floor rear corner bed.

Older folk typically migrate to main floor rear walk-around beds or twin beds. A nimble older adult sleeping solo up top is another common practice.

As for us the past 12 years with our current rig, we sleep together on a main floor rear corner bed. I have to get up to let my wife out. It's not ideal but it works. At least we sleep together which is "a must" for both of us.

72 here, and I also sleep over cab. I'm 6'3" so just one foot on edge of couch then step to floor. gonna look into that gel topper since there is a little valley right where I lay.

For me the cab over is for one spry adult or the grand kid. I would never sleep there.

Funny you mention grandkids, wherever they are in my RV the very first thing they do is climb up to the over cab bed ....
