Planning a trip from NJ to Grand Canyon

We are looking to travel to Grand Canyon next summer. I have heard that since this is such a popular destination we should start booking a year in advance. If anyone has made this or a similar trip and could offer ideas as to an itinerary that would be wonderful. We would like to stop at Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon and Zion along the way. I am looking for wonderful, clean campgrounds as well as rest areas along route. Thanks so much

Go this summer if you can, while gas is still "cheap". It's an election year, next year is not and I bet it'll be $5+ this time next year. I don't mean to be all political but facts is facts. We're going in September for our 35th anniversary, not sure we'll have the chance again.

great place to visit and very very popular was just there in may you can get a mh into some of the overlooks ok and the visitors center has a huge parking lot but some of the overlooks it will be very tight or impossible.
if you are towing a car use it to see the canyon if not rent one for the day,we didn't take ours due to the couple going with us didn't have enough time off for us to drive the mh.
it is beyond description on how amazing it is but best seen from a car
happy travels

It is great out west. If you have not been start your trip up in Yellowstone and work your way south through Utah and Arizona. All of the national parks are great. See the big ones but do not overlook the small ones too.
we naver make reservations a long way ahead. most of the Parks have at least one first come first serve campground in manny all are.
There are also a lot of National forest sites out there. Last time we went to the North rim we could not get into the campground on the first night we arrived. So we stayed three miles away in a great NF space for free!
Do not know about the south rim>
Do not skip Mesa Verde, Canyonlands, Arches and grand Staircase Escalante.
Too much to do and see to ever outline here!
