Popping/bang noise near rear axle on E450 chassis

I have a 2008 Winnebago Class C model 31c with 16,000 miles on the E450 chassis. I bought the motor home used and it was well taken care of.

When I bought it, it made a quick popping or bang noise at the rear axle area and I thought I could locate the problem, but can't.

When starting out from a stop, it makes a quick popping noise/bang halfway into a left or right turn. The noise is only there in a slow turn going from one street on to another. No noise going straight. It almost sounds like a sheet of metal catching on something then releasing. It definitely sounds like it is in the rear axle area.

Any ideas what I could check?

Thanks in advance for the help

Another sign of possible u-joint problems is if you get a "clanking" noise when under load and you suddenly let off the gas.

To check them, you need to get the rear wheels off the ground to take the "load" off of the joints and driveshaft. Also, look closely at joints for signs of rust and other wear and tear.
