Question Power Tuner

Anyone use a power tuner from 5 Star or anywhere else? If so were you happy with the results?

I haven't put one in the MH yet but put a a 5 Star in my F150 5.4L and it works great. I bought a couple econo and towing tunes. The guys at 5 Star appear to be first class.

Power Tuner

Just a "second hand" comment, Jeff. The guy I bought my rig from put a lot of "$tuff" on it....mostly for handling. He also installed the 5-Star tuning. He said he got more satisfaction per dollar from the 5-Star than any of the other upgrades he did. He lived in Calif and said he topped the "Grapevine" with the coach fully loaded 15 MPH faster after the 5-Star was installed. Gotta admit, I don't know why this would be true, cuz it (mainly) just changes the shift points, as I understand it......so I guess it just works. :^) He also said he saw essentially no change in the MPG.

This is the only coach I have ever owned, so I don't have any comparative before & after data. I do note from years of reading RV forums that almost everyone who installs it likes it and considers it well worth the $.

Safe travels to ya..................

The shift points is 1/3 of the tuner at best. I have the 5 Star Tuner on 2 V-10s. (2008,2014). The torque and hp are raised through out the rpm output 12%-24%.

Idaho has it. More than shift points. More HP, more torque. Now if I could get 15 mpg too! LOL

I think it depends a bit on the tune. I had one that the prior owner had done on a 2004 V10 and it caused the setup to hold in the gear too long when it needed to downshift. (Lugging). I returned to stock and has better performance.

My suspicion in my case was that the prior owner had also installed taller tires than stock which also compounded the issue.

MY F53 has a 5 Star tuning. I have that now for about 4 years, and love it.

Search this site for group buy for 5 Star. Some dollars to be saved. Bought mine for the 2011 E-450 based Winnebago Access. Won't go back to stock except when I get a CEL I can't clear and have to go to the dealer.

What is this tuner thing supposed to do?

I have a 1996 Class C on an E350.

If yours is a V-10, the tuner reprograms both the Engine Control Unit and the Transmission Control Unit. Holds gears longer to keep you in the power band and reduce downshifts when climbing.

Supposed to increase horsepower, torque and mileage. Don't have a dyno to test the claims but my seat-of-the-pants butt dyno says some increase. Haven't seen any mileage improvement yet.

More information here. Got a 1998-2015 V10 RV? - 5 Star Tuning
