Newbie going through their first winter with an RV. It will be properly winterized but just wondering about whether to cover the RV with a RV Cover or get a heavy duty tarp and secure it with bungee cords. I have a 24 ft that will be stored in my backyard in SW PA...Thanks

I have a 40 ft diesel pusher now, and had a 34 ft gas before. I have always used a tarp, just one of those poly 4 or 6 mil tarps available at Lowes. But I live in Fla, so no worry about snow or ice. Just bungee it down good. Real easy to put on and take off. My wife and I just fold it accordian style so when I get on the roof, I just pull up on a rope attached to the tarp, and cover the RV, then bungee it down.

I have heard stories that covering an rv has caused chafe marks on the paint.

Be careful and research it some.

Here's a previous thread about the very subject you're asking about. Take note of the pics I posted about our experience with our MH cover. We also had 2 paint rubs on the back, rear compartment door edges (corners) on each side the coach (didn't take pics of those) where we didn't get the cover cinched enough & the wind whipped those edges around. We did a bit better this past winter, as we faced the coach into the winds (faced it west), having the front smooth & tight & any slack gathered at the back (east) - away from the winds. That first year, we had the back end facing west & what slack we had in the fabric back there whipped around too much - rubbing those back bottom corners. If you do decide to go with a cover, be sure you get one that's breathable so ya don't discover mold growing under it when ya take it off in the Spring.

I use ADCO covers and have for over 10 years. Have had no chafing or rub marks so far. They sure keep the paint and wax job in good condition not to mention the graphics.

Just another push for using a tarp vs an rv cover. I have been using tarps for over 6 years now, with never any sign of scratches, blemishes, etc. I don't use a tarp to cover the entire sides of my rig, just about half way down the sides, front, and rear. I park under trees in FL, so the tarp is just to keep the tree sap, etc off the rig. Works great- only problem is finding a 55 ft x 24 ft tarp. Now I have to use 2 or 3 to get it covered the way I want. Ingress/egress is not problem either - just position bungees by the door, so all you have to do is loosen 1 or 2 to get in/out.

Anyone know where I can find a 55 x 24 ft camoflage tarp?
