Small rip in the slide's awning

Must have caught a tree branch or something, just noticed a small hole in the part of the slide's awning that is exposed with the slide closed. I don't have those metal "guards" along the top of the slide that I see on some units.
Anyone have a fix for this "oops" and/or does that metal bar indeed protect the top of the slide/awning along the top? If they work can they be attached aftermarket? Thanks All

?You could get a needle and some synthetic thread at an upholstery or sewing shop and sew up the rip before it gets bigger.
The metal guards do work well. Whether they can be added or not likely depends on exactly what you have but probably they can be added.

I have used the vinyl repair tape with great results. I put it on the top side and the bottom. A lot of RV shops sell the product so does Amazon.
