2008 Itasca Spirit my fourth rv and first motorhome. The toilet stops up very easily. Had to use a snake several times on each trip. This never happened before. Any advice?

MICK... welcome to irv2...
plz go to your profile page and update the signature block to include your equipment.
i don't understand your post. are you saying that your black tank does not drain properly or that you have a buildup of debris in the chute when you open the flush valve or something else entirely?

Make sure you use alot of water when you flush, you may have a off set toilet drain to your black tank and paper is clogging at a bend.
The more water will help when dumping also use Scotts paper for septics it will brake down more easily.
Welcome to irv2 do post often and enjoy the forums.

mickcoin, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have youjoin us here. Sorry to hear of the toilet problem. Can you confirm that the drain make a bend? Can you see the tank water level straight down? You could even have a burr on the edge of a joint that is causing the paper to hang up on. Let us know what you find. Good luck and enjoy the website.

Yes there is a bend. The toilet backs up in the bowl. My wife swears she doesn't use a lot of paper.

Welcome Mickcoin to IRV2.com. OK for the toilet. Is you black tank vent on your roof closed off/plugged.
OK, my first suggestion is to make sure you have plenty (NLT 1/2 toilet bowl),full of water to start with...and (not just as the very/very bottom of the bowl), most toilets use gravity to get things cleared out of the bowl, and need the extra water to clear the pipes.
Next, really limit/cut out the use of number two ply toilet paper, use one ply instead, 'cause it breaks down much better/faster.
The two ply stuff can plug up any RV, especially when it's time to flush the black tank out. Also make sure you are really flushing/bottom spray cleaning your toilet from the basement area.

My last trailer had this bend on the pipe from bowl to tank.I still get mad when I think about it. Solution for us was to make sure we filled bowl with water before flushing. The result is a black tank that fills real quick. Dry camping was a pain.

mick...,
use find, then search for "poop stick." there is a lot of info on this subject. the poop stick fixed my toilet.
now i use a container with approx 12 oz of extra water every time i flush the toilet when paper was used.

Not sure how other's will take this, but it beats a stopped up toilet. I do not put paper in my toilet. Yes, thats what I said - no paper. I use wet wipes and they for sure cannot go in holding tank. Soooooo I have a narrow trash can with a foot leever in the toilet closet, all wipes go over in it, I then take it out every day and spray it with clorox before putting it back. Hey having to rout out a stopped up tank is a lot worse than carrying out a small can of wipes.
