I have some wobble in a wheel on the tag axle on my 1995 Coachmen Santara 32' Class C built on a Ford E-350 chassis. I assume it's a bearing problem, but I don't know anything about tag axles. Any help (specs, guidance, how to identify axle make/model, warnings, etc.) would be much appreciated. I'm reluctant to open it up until I know what I'm getting into.

Thanks!

There isn't much unique about a tag axle. It has wheels, brakes, bearings, etc. like any other axle. You might be able to get some more details if you could identify the brand of the axle itself - you probably need that to get parts anyway. It may be aFord axle, but more likely something else, since it was installed by Coachman rather than Ford.

Your Tag axle is probably made by Dexter.

Check here to see if you can ID your axle and find replacement parts.

Dexter Axle - Trailer Axles and Running Gear Components - PARTS STORE

Good Luck!

All bearings and bearing races will have a manufactures name and part number stamped on them which can be cross referenced at most auto parts stores or stores dealing in such items. (check yellow pages). If bearing have to be changed then races must be replaced also. Dexter or kelsey hayes do not make their bearings and are higher priced than buying else where

I really appreciate your willingness to help - especially the tip on identifying the manufacturer.
As soon as it gets above freezing I'll crawl under it and see what I can see. My big concers are: oil bath or bearing grease (grease is no prob, but oil would lead to more questions) and torque specs. I'm sure there's a part no. on the bearings, it's the putting-it-back-together-right that's putting a hitch in my getalong.

Again, thanks for the help!
