Question Tail light replacement or upgrade

My wife and I just obtained a 1978 minnie winnie sportsman edition for us and the kids, however never owned one before i am at a lost and frankly need much help..lol The big rectangle box light tail light assembly need much replacement and cant seem to find them.. The local RV camper place pretty much laughed at me because of my question.. But if I cant find them ( even tried ebay) then how do I upgrade something like this... Im not too car repair savvy so step by step instructions or video would be a much help.. My kids are wanting to enjoy this as much as my wife and I

Take one of the taillight off and go to Auto Zone, Pep Boys, ect and ask if they have something that can replace it.

Hi Chrswgnrwv and Welcome to the Forum!

Look close at one of the lenses. There should be some identification markings on it. Many Rvs use taillight housings and lenses made by Bargman. The name should be on it if it is one of their lenses. Also, it could be made by one of the Big3 automaker - GM, Ford, Chrysler(Dodge). Again, there should be some identification markings indicating the manufacturer. Best of luck in your hunt. Worst case, just replace the old taillights with newer universal replacement ones.

P.S. This may not help with the tail light hunt but here is your 1978 Winnie brochure.
Product Information: 1978

with everyone so far. Also You can get the numbers off of the tail light assembly and just Google them. You would be surprised what they were originally made for. Headlights also. If you have the plastic lens cover type you can Google the numbers and see what car/truck they came from.

Good luck and keep us posted on how things go. I know the kids will remember these days for the rest of their lives.

Thank folks, the lens and assembly inside says a path finder company that apparently is no longer made.. So i guess we are going to have to upgrade them.. As I said, not car savvy so I hope its an easy job

I'd suggest you call Winnebago at 1 (800)-537-1885. They possibly can help you out . They also have a lot of electrical and parts info on line.

Here's a link to Bargman Bargman

I suggest investigating LED tail lights. I put these on our motorhome and car trailer, and the visibility to others on the road is greatly increased.

The main thing is to verify the replacement size light matches the old, or is larger to cover the space or opening. Also, there are two schemes for turn signals, so you need to determine which one you have. You will either have separate turn signal lights (sometimes yellow), or the other version that just blinks the existing brake light.

Also, if the local camper place laughed at you, maybe it's time to find another one...
