Toll Transponders
So I asked this as a result of a reference on another thread, but probably should have started my own thread, so here goes:
"The problem you will run into around Miami is the Florida Turnpike has Sunpass (transponder) or "bill from camera photo of your license plates" ... no manned toll booth. I HIGHLY recommend setting up a Sunpass account and getting the windshield transponder. "
OK, rookie question. I have a Class C with a considerable overhang above the cab.
Will a toll transponder still work?
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have no idea why the overhang of your cab would bother the transponder. It's a radio frequency device that doesn't require a direct line of sight anyway.

Yes, they are RFID devices but they do work better with no metal between the tag and the sensor on the gantry. I have my Sun Pass and EZ Pass tags laying on the dash instead of stuck to the windshield and they have never failed.

Obstructions can make your toll tag unreadable. My original EZ Pass would not register if placed upside down on my dash but always worked on the console right side up. Make sure your vehicle is registered to the toll tag. That way you will get the reduced toll tag rate and not be fined or pay the photo rate.

I owned a Class C and had an EZ Pass from NY. I attached it to the windshield (under the cab overhang) and I never had a problem.

My EZPass worked in PA and NY laying on the dash by the windshield but not in IL, OH, NH, or ME. The EZPass help line told me to use the velcro fasteners to attach it to the bunk front window. After that it works everywhere just fine.
Not sure where it would go if you do not have a front bunk window.

I put this on the other thread but I guess it got by. I had a gulfstream endura 36 class c down here for 2 years sunpass was thrown up on dash NO problem. When you purchase
the transponder you register your plate numbers so if the transponder fails they will pick up the plate number and bill your account, also for the toll by plate down here in so fl.

Many times, when I take my MH and pull my toad, I have two transponders. You might say "just put the toad transponder in the glove compartment"! However, it still registered there, and I was charged twice! I called the toll service line and was told that I must put one transponder, in a plastic bag (one that has a silverish-look to it), which will block the signal. I said, "oh, that's what that bag is for"! I got the bag, when I got a new transponder, but just stuck it away somewhere.
So, in response to the OP's question, I would say that the cab-overhang, probably will not be a problem.

If you don't have the plastic bag, wrap the toad's transponder in aluminum foil; it will do the same thing.

If you are towing a car acoss the Bay Area, (California) bridges you pay by axle. If you only have one transponder how does it know you are towing? I know others who have yet to get a bill when they crossed towing. They have always found me in our car, but I haven't towed through the bridge toll booth yet. (GGB has no toll takers)

Florida's toll roads have always counted my TOAD's axles with the motorhome.

I have the cheap Florida Toll transponder that is stuck to the glass where they say to put it. It charged me correctly the 3 or 4 times I used it last winter and my Class C has a large overhang. If I remember correctly there is some mention of Class Cs in the literature that comes with the transponder. Have you checked their website for info?
