Trailer Wiring

Just bought this 2005 20' Gulf Stream Conquest on a Ford E350. This vehicle has never towed before. It has the receptacle in place, but there is no power. I checked the fuse box on the bottom of the firewall on the driver's side and the electrical distribution box under the hood. I am really challenged when it comes to lights. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Jan

Glad you're aboard Jan. Check by following the wires out of the back of the recepticle, should T into the tailight circuitry probably on the left side. Hope that helps. Enjoy your adventures and be safe.

The power distribution box should have several relays to power the light terminals and the electric brake terminal in the trailer socket. If you have the Ford chassis manual it will show you where they are and what they do.

Some models came with these in a bag rather than installed from the factory. The dealer was supposed to install them.

I had a Ford truck that had the trailer towing pkg. but like yours nothing worked when I plugged the trailer plug into the socket. I took it to the dealer and they informed me I needed to buy the relays. I informed them I had ordered the trailer towing package and I shouldn't need to purchase additional parts to get it to work. They searched through the truck and found the necessary relays in a bag in the jack storage compartment. They were supposed to have been installed when the dealer did the PDI but someone did an oops. Once they were installed everything ran fine.
