We have a class C with one of those visor monitors. Does anyone have experience with changing the visor monitor to a dash-mounted one? (it is black and white).

Thanks in advance,

Skip

Good question, I have the visor monitor also and it is not user friendly. A dash mount would be much better.

Hi Skip
I took the monitor off the visor, real easy to do. I mounted it with Gorilla Glue to the rear view mirror. I pushed the wires into the ceiling over to the rear view mirror.
A note from one who did this, cover the dash, etc. so as to avoid dripping glue on it - a mess! Tape the monitor on the mirror till dry .... works great and you can rotate the monitor for just the right view. So much better than the visor mount

Sure would like to see a pic of the installation. It sounds like a good option.

I really like C Driver's suggestion. Soon as it warms up a little here in the Texas hill country I'm gonna give it a try!

Thanks!

Well, I took C Driver's idea and attached my monitor to the rear view mirror just as he did (see his pic). Should you decide to attempt this project, here is how I did mine.

I used a box cutter to pry the screw covers off. Then I removed the four screws and disassembled the camera. I disconnected the wire connector and pulled the wire back out of the visor.

OH NO! Unfortunately there was not enough cable to make the run to the rear view mirror, so I had to look for some slack. I removed the windshield support grab handle, then the plastic trim. AHA! I was able to gain plenty of cable length... pulled what I needed and then bolted things back together (Ford E450 chassis).

To mount the monitor to the rear view mirror first I made up a 1/4"thick wooden slat that would fit inside the mirror frame.. cut it to length and then glued it to the monitor back panel with Gorilla Glue.

Then I took it out to the motorhome, connected the cable and then screwed the two halves together. All that was left to do was to glue the assembly to the rear view mirror. I used Tape to hold it in place while until the glue set up. How do you tape it? Well, I just took about a foot long piece of srcap wood and taped it to the front of the monitor. I applied the glue and then while Bobbie held it in place, I ran tape around the mirror and the scrap.. using good electrical tape will provide sufficient pressure to hold it in place until the glue sets.

Well, I can tell you that this is a great, and very inexpensive improvement. Now the monitor is in a favorable position for viewing without having to play with the visor all the time.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to deal with that big hole in the visor....lol

Thanks Ed for a great idea,
Skip
