Is there a window above it? Could it be for the strap that holds the window awning out?

It is a vent and behind it I can see which I'm going to assume is the slide motor.

Please note the snow in the photos.

Saw that same photo on another forum with less info in the supporting post.. I can now answer

That is a mounting slot for something. What, I can't tell you from the information provided but...

If it's down low, it might be a slot for some kind of brace or pole.

If it's oh say about waist (your waist as you stand) high or a bit higher.. And epically if there are two of them, it mounts a grill or table for cooking or preping food.

NOTE: I do not like the idea of a grill on the side of my rig.. (Grease splatters from grilling) I like it out a few feet on it's own legs.

You could remove those two Philip's screws and plate then get a flash light to see what inside if anything.

Then if your still confused take your Class C. to a R.V. Sale Center to see if they have one like your for sale or just drive your car and look for one.
That way you could ask them what is it use for.

Or to a repair shop.

Why would a slide motor need a reinforced vent cover on a Freelander and not on other RVs? They only run for a few seconds and then shut off. I don't doubt that that's a slide motor, but I imagine it's placement is coincidental.

I'm betting on the table support idea myself.

Like I said on my earlier post there is nothing to negate the effects of anything stuck into the slot. We had a grill mounted on the side of our TT (never used it). It fit into a slotted rail that didn't allow the grill to scratch or mar the outside finish. I see nothing on that cover to prevent that from happening.

Maybe it allows access to something that might be necessary to service that something. Maybe an electrical or wiring harness disconnect.

If it's for access why wouldn't it be a solid plate? The fact that it's slotted is significant. If it was for ventilation I would think it would be larger and have louvers.

And the answer is... Drumroll... According to Ron Ross, the gent who answers tech questions emailed to Coachmen; "that is a vent. There is an LP line connection inside in that location and by code we have to provide a vent for it."

I don't know, maybe I should light a match and peek into it to see what I can see. Kidding.
