first, we have a diesel seneca.

the problem is, over the past weekend i would head out to the garage and i could hear something running on the camper. so, i told dh to check out the camper.

it was the generator. it was almost like it was false priming.. it is plugged into electric. to get it to stop, dh hit the start button ON THE GENERATOR.

we don't know why it did this. it happened saturday and sunday morning. we have not heard it since.

What was the noise from the generator? Was it actually running or something else? By "false priming", do you mean some sort of fuel pump was running?

My generator is doing this also. I think it has been haveing a problem for a while but did not know what it was doing. I had it a t home this weekend to help with power outages due to the stroms. The first night, the generator shut off and when i went and checked on it in the morning, it was in the priming mode. maeanin it was trying to prime just like i was holding the prime sid eof the switch, then I would try to start it and it would only run while i held the switch. I noticed if I touched the breaker or anything on the switch it would stop for a minute or 2 then do the same thing. I took the screws out of the switch panel and removed the protctive cover from the back and moved some wiring and it stopped with the priming and started up fine and ran for the next 2 days, no problem. This morning (3 days later) when I went out it was doing the prime thing again. so I hit the panel that hold the switch and it stopped. I think i have a wriing issue or a bad start switch. Who knows how long it would continue to self prime, probably until the battery goes dead or the solenoid fails. I am probaly going to try to get a relacement switch.
This is on a Onan Microquiet 4KW, KY spec. K. Any advice?

It certainly sounds like a defect in design or manufacture - I think a call to Onan or an Onan dealer is in order. Maybe they already know about this problem?
