Does anyone have or know why a FMCA number starts with an I rather than an F. I have asked people in my local chapter but an answer is not forth coming.
I will call national but was curious if there is anyone else with a different letter than F

Not sure but as I recall the letter indicates a class of membership, Like "D" for Dealer,, Not sure what I would be unless it is a single camper (Individual)
'I' memberships are those given away by RV Dealerships. Anytime in the following year an 'I' membership may renew the membership and recieve an 'F' membership.

Ah, I as in INVITE or Initial. Makes sense indeed.
It is "Introductory." As stated by MBroyer it is given by dealerships at time of purchase.
