We recently joined FMCA and received our welcome packet in the mail which included (2) plaques. We intend to mount (1) on the rear ladder and the other inside on the windshield. Does anyone have pics on their front windshield mounting they could post plse and what you used?

I use suction cups with a threaded stud and a knurled nut on the back that can be tightened by hand.

They are available at RV show vendors.

There are apparently different mounting plaques that are sold by the company that makes the plaques for FMCA
FMCA Mounting Plaques and from RVUpgrades, a sponsor on this forum.

I did not like the brackets that came with the plaque for mounting on the windshield. Like Route 66, I use suction cups directly on the plaque instead. These have held the plaque in place through several trips encompassing several thousand miles with no problems.

Motorhome showing windshield mounted FMCA plaque.

Close-up of plaque showing mounting suction cups. Bottom suction cup is not attached to the plaque. It is placed to between the plaque and windshield to keep the plaque from leaning and rattling against the windshield.

Brackets! There were supposed to be brackets in the package I received? Nope! Checked again! Not there.

Any other suggestions beside suction cups?

Has anyone made a bracket to hang down from the license plate area, or from underneath the frame?

Wayne M,

Our FMCA plates did not come with mounting brackets, but did come with an order from from Kiley Mold Company - they make the FMCA plates - for various mounting bracket options. We got the ladder mounts and the front license mount. Here's the link for Kiley Mold Company.

I used a scrap piece of 2x3 hard wood (because of weight)cut to equal length of the "egg", cut a slot the length of the block, mounted a piece of ply wood cut and trimmed to conform to the size of the plate leaving an extension below, slipped and glued the ply wood into the slot of the block, stained with an Oak stain to make it look good, mounted the plate on the plywood and set the whole thing on the dash board facing out the windshield.

The weight of the block keeps it from falling over and still be loose enough on the dash board that I can move it around if I so desire. Normally I leave it setting in the lower left corner of the windshield. I believe I'm in the 15 year catagory, haven't had any problems with it through 3 motor homes and it sure was easy to transfer from one to the next.

Marty:
Your suggestion is one of those, "why didn't I think of that" ideas. Thanks for the detailed info.

I wasn't quite sure how mine was going to go on the front so, until I come up with a brainstorm, I attached it to the visor. I just flip it down and out it shows.

CheetaGirl,
I cannot block the top or bottom of the plate and the egg shape does that.

I'm now looking more at the Front Ladder Mount, and the windshield suction.

I would think there were more options, other than drilling a hole in the skin.
