I think both organizations are very good.
FMCA has the park discounts, medical evac service, rallies, list of FMCA members allowing boondocking on their properties, and Michelin Tire Discount Program. Members must own a motor coach.
Good Sam has the park discounts, and rallies. Members have access to their ERS and Extended Warranty programs. Members encompass anyone that frequents campgrounds from tent campers to Class A motor coaches.
Both organizations have good monthly magazines. Both organizations fight for RV related issues at both the state and federal level. I belong to both and encourage others to do so as well.
The new CEO of Good Sam has vowed to listen to member complaints. One of his first promises is to cut out the amount of junk mail sent out by GS. If he is good on his word, GS will be that much better for it.

Our choice of RV travel has always been a fifth wheel. Camping and RVing is about the experience in my opinion, not in the rig you drive or tow. We spend our money with organizations that recognize that fact, like GS and Escapees.

Half Dimes,I think that FMCA now accepts fivers if they are self contain.there were some at the last rally.

FMCA does not allow towables as a member. Yes, you did see some towables as it is left up to the areas as to whether they are allowed or not. Some areas have a "bring a buddy" where you can bring a friend that has a towable.
At the Perry,GA convention, towables were allowed and there were about 13 there one of which bought a motorhome.

Thought I would check with them. Here's the reply:
FMCA is still an association for motorhome owners only so a fifth-wheel does not qualify. If you plan to buy a coach in the future and wish to subscribe to the magazine, Family Motor Coaching, the cost is only $30 for one year. You can either mail in your payment, call our office or go online to Subscribe | Family Motor Coaching magazine.
Guess I will continue to live without them .

Actually, I did. But before that, I had sent an email to FMCA asking the question. Always good to get first hand information.

We have both for the unlikely scenario that something is not working and we might need a tow. FMCA has a mobile mechanic they will send out. If he (or she) cannot fix the problem....and a tow is necessary, you are toast. FMCA will not tow for free as you have used up your quota for one problem. This is when you call GSam and request a free tow somewhere.

This is the first I have heard about FMCA sending out a mobile mechanic. I think you have a little misinformation about CoachNet and what assistance they will provide.

Yes, it seems as Ronald Reagan used to say ".....I mis-spoke". Coach Net is what we signed up for and they have the mobile mechanic.

I also have a charter Lifetime Good Sam membership. I just joined FMCA and am beginning to evaluate the two of them. One thing that I've noticed lately is that Camping World now is a part of Good Sam. They have eliminated their President's Club and I believe you get discounts by being a GS member.
