FMCA goes out of their way to tell us how good their medical transportation is, BUT, there is a big catch.
My understanding of this program was that if you are hospitalized and needed a transfer to another hospitol in your home area FMCA could arrange and cover this.
I will use my exact situation:
Wife was in the hospitol in Butler Pa for 7 days and they still hadn't found what was her problem. There was no communication between doctors, staff and patient and as a result I wanted to have her transferred to MUSC in Charleston SC, near where we live, have family, receive all our bills and even receive our FMCA magazine, in Beaufort SC.
Contacted FMCA and got Mede-x phone number and group number.
Found that we are not elligable for this benefit as your DRIVERS LICENSE dictates where your home base is located.
Since my drivers license indicated Harmony Pa FMCA considers this as the starting point. And since I'm in Pa now we are not elligable for transportion.
Now let's go one step furthur and say you are a member of the Exscapees and have a Livingston Tx address for mail and drivers license. You would not be elligable for this benefit if you are within 100 miles of Livingston, regardless where you want to go. If you would be in SD, and need transferred, and family etc. is located in Fla you would not be elligable to go to Fla ,BUT, you could go to Livingston TX, where your drivers license says you belong.
This is a real catch 22 that's best set for both FMCA and Mede-x to avoid the transfer!
Possibly someone will ask about this type situation at the Oregon convention. I'm sure they will have an answer.
If anyone ever gets a good answer PM me or post for others so they don't have to go through the same situation.
What makes me disgusted is I just renewed my membership or additional years believing we had coverage if a transfer situatiuon ever came up. Always figured this was the best reason to be a member of FMCA.
Side note: took hospital 8 days to find wife has Mono.

I don't believe that SkyMed would not have left you in that type of situation. I was in a hospital in PA last summer and I had to fly my son up to Hershey to help me drive home, just in case.

I am an FMCA member and it didn't even come to my mind about the medical evac benefit. We live in Conway. See my signature.

I carry a MASA card (I think that is the spelling) they pay for the original evaucation (That is the first ambulance of life-flight trip) to the hospital (Whatever is not covered by your health insurance) Then they pay for transport from hospital #1 to airport 1 to airport 2 to hospital 2 and they pay a driver to deliver your motor home to whatever address you designate (or to your home if your card is silver)

You specify where "HOME" is ... not them

Baby Bear,

I you want to write up a couple of senario questions that I can read, I will try to pose the questions at the Oregon rally. I dont know enough about what could be the various situations, but am somewhat concerned since we mignt be there in a year or two.
