Awesome Volunteer Opportunity off Umpqua Hwy in Oregon

Just found out that the couple who was scheduled to replace us as Camp Hosts for August - October can't make it. This is an absolutely beautiful location (see pictures) which we absolutely love. Camp Hosts are given an awesome full hookup site in return for keeping an eye on 12 dry camp sites and a day use area. Nearby are numerous water falls, hiking & ATV trails. Location BLM Millpond Recreation Site, 27 miles east of Roseburg OR and is within Verizon cell service and DirecTV dish is available.

If interested in replacing us for the August - October timeframe please contact BLM Volunteer Coordinator Ariel Hiller at AHiller@blm.gov

Looks nice. A few questions: about how many hours a week and how many days a week are you on duty? we have never camp hosted before so would be first time. Have 40' HM is the power 30 or 50 amps? What are the pros and cons of camp hosting there?

Thanks

There is no set hours, we are responsible for keeping bathrooms stocked, answering questions and periodically emptying fire pits. Generally we spend about an hour a day walking the park and are here Friday - Monday to answer questions, Tues - Thurs we sightsee, go to town and or ATV ride.

BLM provides 50amp power, propane, water and sewer. There's a shelter to park your coach under, ours is a 43ft and fits fine.

For us the "work" involved is well worth getting the campsite for free, we love getting away from the RV park environment and staying amongst nature but still with hookups, cellular, Internet and TV for 90 days.

Hope this helps!

Karen

Karen,

Where are you headed next? Did you check out that place near Lake Selmac?

Makes me wish we weren't both still working full time and raising a 13 yr old grandson!

When we leave Oregon in August we're going to tour Utah, New Mexico & Arizona for the fall. Our next opportunity to volunteer will be in February 2014, ideally somewhere south!
