Not really because I left the pipeline some weeks ago returned to Tucson and am now on my way to Alaska.

If these guards are being treated as “contractors” rather than employees they’re getting a raw deal. And probably an illegal one.

Whether or not being a contractor in this job is illegal may be an open question but it has less to do with the job per se than it does on how the company actually handles things.


If you go to IRS.gov you can find a 20 point questionnaire meant to be applied to test if a job is actually a contract position. However there are not really any clear cut right and wrong for any given answer...the IRS looks at the overall picture.


This type of job surely fits the proper definition of a contract position if the company is careful about how they handle the contractor.


The current Administration is FIRMLY on the company's side in this argument now...which is the REAL bad news about this. This means that if you are actually being taken advantage of your chances of getting a fair resolution is pretty dim.
