One more quick question. When you park the car or truck and start walking how far do you have to walk back? If your wife picks you up does she get paid?

Residential, you park on the street and work a few block circle around and back to your vehicle, gone a few hours or so, your call. Business districts, the same. Transmission lines from point A to point B you ride a 4 wheel drive ATV. We hire couples and you each get the 200 per week per diem but you each need a vehicle and need to perform as 2 separate techs.

This sounds interesting. Always looking for a way to make some money on the road and see new places. Is there a list of project areas for the year? Already have PHMSA training from the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.

I looked up the job posting. Interesting to find the fulltime and part time postings to be identical. Not sure 40 hr week job fits my idea of being semi retired. But I already have a part time telecommuting engineering gig.

All equipment is supplied (except boots). We work all over the country for many different gas utilities and with the spring contracts/projects beginning we need more traveling technicians. This is for full time RVer's, including couples, who are available to go anywhere. Each job lasts anywhere from a few weeks to several months, 40 hours per week, with no downtime in between. Yes, you can take time off in between jobs or while enroute to see the sights. Some of our techs take time off in the winter but I work year round.

Feel free to take a look at my blog to get a better idea of what the job is about. Here's a link to a post I made last year, a sort of "day in the life", post, Walking the Line. Google the company name as well and click on the careers link for a full description including salary, weekly per diem, travel expense reimbursement, etc.

If this type of outdoor work is up your alley it's a fantastic way to work full time on the road. Message me or contact me through the blog and I'll be more than happy to give you my phone number and fill you in on all the details. If it turns out to be something you're interested in I'll then get you in contact with our HR recruiter.

If I may ask, or state, at $200.00 a week for 40 hours, isn't this under the federal min wage act? Or is this on a 1099 deal?

The following is from the company's application process information in the link provided earlier:

Compensation:
  • Up to $16.30 an hour (includes mileage, travel allowance and per diem) ($9.00hr. plus $200 travel allowance a week. Reimbursement for usage of personal vehicle is $2.30hr - This hourly vehicle use rate is normally used and will vary for each gas leakage survey assignment. Transportation between assignments is paid at $.815 per mile – if you are hauling/towing an RV)
  • Upon completion of training and completion of two weeks on first assignment, the technician will receive a training/reporting bonus of $500. Technicians will also be paid incentives when assisting in training another Technician.
  • Guaranteed travel expense plus 24 hours wages each week, should he/she be unable to work due to weather. Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week at a rate of 1.5 times the hourly wage. On average, our technicians work 36 to 40 hours each week over the course of a year
Our benefits package reflects our respect for workplace and personal contributions.
When you join Southern Cross, you will be eligible for:
  • Medical, dental, vision and a 401k
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid vacations

Thank You for clearing that up. Do they have a problem hiring some one at or near retirement age? Sorry to ask all these, but it would much easier to get a No from here verses them. Thank You Again for all and any help with these questions.

And in what state would the income be claimed? Each state worked? Or just the home office? Or your "domicile" state?
