Looking for Volunteer position w/housing
First I just want to say that the "housing" I would need is just a "barracks" type, or other shared as I don't own an RV at this time.
I am looking at working with/for US Army Corp of Engineers right now, but would be open to hearing about other opportunities.
If anyone has information on volunteer work that includes a place to stay for the Summer, or longer if needed, would you let me know. I'd so appreciate it.
I am a retired lady, and have my income, my home here on the West Coast (rent an apartment) but I so want to "get out there". I am saving now for an RV but not in a hurry. I want to make a good decision, as the RV would be my home.
I want to either find a permanent place to volunteer, or I would love to move around a bit if the opportunity arises
Thank you for any help, feedback, or suggestions,
Denise
PS I want to hear from anyone who has info, but I would love to hear from other women like myself that are on their own doing what they love

In the last year we have volunteered at 2 different places that also sponsored "Artist In The Park Volunteers". Both places provided furnished cabins for the artist that were very nice. The artist could agree to provide different services such as donate a park painting, music session, quilting or any number of activities to encourage park visitation. Your best bet would be to contact a park to see what they needed. The first 2 are Artist positions and the last 2 were visitor center openings:
Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs, AR. 521-620-6703. They had a log cabin in the campground for artist.
Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge, Starkville, MS. Manager Steve Reagan, 662-323-5548. They have a 3 bedroom newer house overlooking a lake full of wildlife, deer, alligators, eagles, etc. (could be artist or VC needed)
Quivira NWR, Strafford, KS. Visitor Service Specialist, Barry Jones, 620-486-2393.
They had 2 furnished houses near the visitor center and were looking for a volunteer to run the VC and sell items from a small gift store.
Prairie Creek Redwoods State/National Park, CA. 707-465-7345. They had small dorm room housing or extra campers and were recently looking for VC help. We volunteered there 3 years ago.

Thank you grindstone, I wish I was artistic after seeing your message. I will check them out in case there is "something" I could do to donate. It sounds like a wonderful place as I so love to look at artwork.
PS I just called the park near Orick, CA as that is not very far from me at all. I could possibly commute to volunteer for them. I was able to leave a voice-mail, so I will let you know if they call me back If not, I'll try and call again a little later today. This one could be perfect for me Denise
Thank you again, Denise

Just saw this today and thought of this post.

It is a month old posting but.......... It would not hurt to apply or call or both.

Thanks so much, I appreciate all the replies here. Georgia would be too far for me to go, at least for now. Right now, I'm focused on Western States, and it's getting so far into the Summer season that I may just stick around home.
Thank you again Denise
