Doesn't look good to me. I really despise how corporate America, (Wal-mart, MacDonalds) and it looks like this place too, exploits our senior citizens with poverty wages. What is the going wages and benefits for"workkamping"?

Let's see now....
They expect you to work 28 hours per week for "free" ($7.00 per hr. after that). The average month has 4.3 weeks so that's a minimum of 120.4 "free" hrs. per month. Even at their paltry $7.00 per hour, that's $842.80 per month for a parking pad for which they charge $330. (plus electric) to "paying guests".
What's wrong with this picture?
FYI - minimum wage is $7.25

John - lots of different kinds of people work lots of different kinds of jobs for lots of different kinds of reasons. Sometimes jobs make 'cents'. Sometimes they make 'sense'. Somebody out here needs this job. Maybe they'll see your post...

John,
You just passed information on that some may find useful and others may not find useful. It is a personal decision for anyone who may take up on this offer "from the campground" Ray and Mary had a good response.
No need to delete the post. It gives some the opportunity to comment.
Happy trails.

Thanks for the info. Workamping is a personal choice as well as the jobs one choses to take. If you don't know of a job that is one choice you don't have. When we started workamping it wasn't to make a living as much as have new experiences. If I was just interested in the money I would have stayed in my career field . Keep up the good work .

So it would make more sense to say go work at mcdonalds a few hrs a week?? or do something in the field that you like and are qualified for. we are new to this and not started rving yet but doing research. So one does not necesarily have to do workkamp to make a living. One can get a part time job and say boondock or go to any campground they choose.
I am just trying to kake sesne of it all. make the right choice for my family. For newbies this would have sounded great until H. Miller put it into perspective for me.
Thank you John for posting the info. It gave me good info and choices.

Nothing wrong with the post imho.
If I got paid to do what we are doing, wouldn't be doing it,,,,it would seem tooooooomuccccchhhhhhhhhh like a job.
Different strokes and all that......the location might fit someone, as well as the job.

Woody,
You have to do what makes sense for you and your family. For several years my wife and I have volunteered at a state park for a couple months every year. We don't get paid any money at all, but we get a place to camp with all utilities included. AND we get to stay for longer than the normal 2-week limit that most state parks have, in a place that's near our children and grandchildren. We don't "make money" but we save money by not spending it. We agree with Sideroads - we don't want "jobs". We've HAD jobs. Again, you have to do what makes the most sense for you and your family. But it IS FUN!

We are new to all this and we want all the advice we can get. I keep getting told we won't be able to find a workkamp position b/c too many retirees would get it over us b/c we have children. I hope we can get something.
See I did not know about the 2 week limit at campgrounds so to get a work position with that campground would be good seeing we could stay longer like a few months vs 2 weeks.
There are pros and cons and I definately would love to hear both sides. I hear that if we want to camp work we need to file applications now for 2011. Is that correct?
we'd like to go to FL or TX but I hear FL is impossible as everyone goes there. again myth or truth?
Thanks for the help.

Right now we are book through April 2011 for Volunteer positions.
Florida in the Winter is tough, because that's where a lot of Geezer's (I fit) like to be or Texas. Spring, Summer and Fall would most likely be more open.
However, Texas has some northern country and there are probably opportunities up there....jmho.l

Thank you for that info. We have family in Houston, TX. That would be nice to be somewhere near there. AZ, GA, anywhere along southern border would be okay with us. Thanks again for the info.

Not trying to change the thread, but I do think the responsibile thing for fulltimers, is to tell it like it is.
Here you have a couple that has kids, wants to fulltime. workamp, and make a living while doing it.
I did it for 10 years, without a wife or kids and it aint easy. Sure you can workamp and eat beans, you can retire with no savings, little s.s. income due to lost wages and drive a beat up rv. You can get them kids into many different schools, change their friends every year or so.
Is that what you are looking for? I sure hope not.
Let us try and be honest to these that are reading, talking to, and dreaming of the "good life" .
Just plain and simple, workamping for a living is a tough nut to crack and you cannot buy those nutcrackers at walmart.
