Volunteer Position for Day Use Gatehouse

J. Strom Thurmond Lake is on the South Carolina & Georgia Border


One Volunteer Position for Day Use Gatehouse:

Our agency has a great opportunity for you to spend your summer on beautiful J. Strom Thurmond Lake, Amity Recreation Area approximately 9 miles north of Thomson, Georgia. Volunteers will stay on site and are required to work 20 hours per week, per couple.

Specifically volunteers are needed to operate a day-use recreation area gatehouse 9:00 am to 5:30 pm during our peak recreation season - Saturdays, Sundays, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.

Volunteers must have a factory built self-contained motor home RV, 5th wheel or travel trailer camper. Two pet maximum, Dogs must be leashed within the park. Volunteers may arrive as early as May 23 2016.

Volunteers will be responsible for manning the day use gatehouse weekends and holidays throughout the summer recreation season. Daily hours are from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Duties include collecting day use fees, selling annual passes, and supply visitors with information and regulations concerning the Corps of Engineers and day use area. Volunteers may also assist with the Water Safety and Life Jacket Loaner Programs as needed. Volunteers should report any compliance problems (vandalism and similar disturbances) to the nearest Corps of Engineers’ ranger or law enforcement officer.

Volunteers will average 20 to 25 hours of service per week. Volunteers will be bonded by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and subject to background checks. Volunteers will wear clean (white polo shirt) clothes while performing volunteer duties. Applicants must be physically capable of performing job duties. Volunteers must have a friendly attitude with the public and portray a positive image of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Training will be provided by Corps personnel. Work will be performed according to safety guidelines provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This position is available as soon as possible. Description: In return for your volunteer hours (20 to 25 hours of service per week) the Volunteer Village has 12 campsites each furnished with a cement pad, table, grill, lantern post, water, electric (50 amp/30 amp), sewage and WIFI.
