Winter in AZ

Maricopa County Regional Parks (Phoenix area) are looking for volunteers for the 2015-2016 season. This year will be our 3rd season.

Although they require 40 hrs per couple, all that is required is the job gets done. Couples always work together, but if one can do it (or share), that's all that is required.

Free site with FHU, ice, propane and laundry are also included. Some jobs require you drive a Co vehicle, in which they provide a driving class. All jobs require a background check (no cost to you).

For more info:

https://www.maricopa.gov/parks/volunteer.aspx

We suggest White Tank Mountain Park to contact them directly, call 623 935 2505 and ask for Raymond Schell, Park Supv.

If I'm reading the webpage correctly, water and electricity are "complimentary", what about sewer hookup?

OK, thanks. Sounds like something we may pursue if our present plans work out.

I was asked in another thread about volunteering at White Tanks Mountain Park (Maricopa County-Phoenix).

It is a beautiful park in the Sonoran Desert. The winter weather is perfect. Jobs include working in the Nature Center selling various park items and snacks.

Working at the Entry Station collecting park fees.

2 campground host position's taking care of campers (Family Campground with water and electric and a dump station on site)

2 positions taking care of 8 restrooms around the park and trash removal (day use).

I position taking care of 3 restrooms and campers in the "Group", " Youth" and Willow (Group tent camping areas).

Park Hosts receive FHU, free ice, laundry and propane.

Most jobs require you drive a county vehicle, which requires a free driving class and you provide your state driving record. All jobs require a free background check.

All Parks go by seniority. Your first year will go by where you are needed, unless you have certain skills or you insist on a certain job.

After 1 year we learned all the jobs and will have our favorite job 2 years in a row this year.

On a personal note, the Park Supv is a great guy and will work with you on any personal issues. Also the other volunteers work together to take care of emergencies or other scheduling problems.

We have made this our home base because of the superior medical care in a great climate. Also every retailer is within 12 miles of the park, yet it is so isolated

Clyon51, thanks for introducing us to White Tanks Mountain! It sounded interesting to us so we stated talking about it at our current position (yellowstone Association) and discovered that one of our coworkers had worked there last year. With our interest piqued we applied and have been accepted to work in the entrance booth this winter. Looking forward to going back to Arizona.

Yes we are returning AZ bound, we will arrive in the end of Sept some time. Leaving Roswell in a week, staying in Heber for a week (next summers spot) then to Sedona until the weather breaks. Say hi to Jim and Gail.

My parent's friends since high school did the AZ workcamper gig for years. Bob & Cathy from Council Bluffs, IA. Has anyone here met them?

Bob has passed on.

I contacted maricopa county to Workkamp for this winter. I got two offers there about a week after submitting. Both wanted 6 months with a start in in early oct.

We managed to land a gig with a free site and some pay in Florida for the winter so we ended up turning both in Maricopa county down.

Just sharing in case others are looking.
