Thats my thoughts. Its going to cost at least half of the cost or more to fly or drive your van if you include motels, meals at restaurants etc. Think of it as an rv holiday, but half paid for with the price of the wedding. Since you own an rv, why would you not use it for just such an event. If the wedding is in January, you might want to reconsider using the rv.

also I know this is 'maybe maybe' an option, but do you really need to be at this wedding? number 2 sometimes is just that, been there done that but if it is a very very very important event, then you pick an option and pay the price. whatever option that may be and it still will be money well spent if the wedding attendance is a must.

it is not wrong to skip a wedding of anyone...immediate kid included IF IT is not possible to truly attend...and kid's understand they do their thing when older and parents do their thing when older.

I am only saying cause not going could be ok also???

any money travel gift in money you spend, could be money you give to them for a new start??? again, very personal choice here

but the rv with free overnight parking, such as rest stops etc could be a lot cheaper than hotels with a car, but then again, even with the major inconvenience of flying...and who doesn't truly hate the time before a flight!!!--everyone does , it could still be your cheapest but aggrevating option.

Two things that we do to reduce fuel costs. Fuel at Pilot/Flying J to get the Good Sam discount and use our Sam's Club MasterCard for the cash back - 5% on the first $6,000 fuel purchases, then 1% thereafter.

Cheapest is to fly, rent a car and hotel for 3 nites or so. Have a good time at the wedding/reception, kiss the lucky bride goodbye and mosey on home.

Most gas stations we saw while in the USA, had one price for cash, and a higher price for credit. I dont see the point of using a credit card to get cash back, when you have to pay the same amount extra to use the credit card. Am I missing something?

As mentioned above, its about 1,600 miles (as the crow flies) and you should be getting at least 10 miles to the gallon. So that's 160 x $3.25/gal = $520 in fuel, on way). Doubling it is still only have the amount you feared paying.

While $1,000 in fuel is not cheap, you will probably pay $300 each for air fare, then taxi or rental car, and hotel bill and meals at restaurant.

I think it is going to coat you $1,200 - $1,500 whether you take the RV or Fly.

No date...no wedding... Just a few thoughts on the wedding part.

Now as for the travel part. Now is not the time to start heading to NH if you are on a budget. The winter is tough. If the wedding is in October early November I would pack now and leave tomorrow and enjoy the fall. Then I would drive slowly back to OK to see the fall colors.

So what I am saying is go slow and spread gas costs over 3-4months, Get gas buddy to find cheapest gas. Sams club credit card gives 15% fuel discount coupled with J you get a bigger discount. Good luck to you and your son.

There actually aren't that many in the southeast U.S. with split pricing. They're pretty easy to avoid. Just gotta' shop around - I like to stop at Pilot/Flying J when they have good competition at the same exit(like Quik Trip). Our local Sam's Club is where we usually fill up when at home.

You can always stay home and send what it would cost you on the trip to your marrying couple instead. They will appreciate it more than seeing you. No crowds, TSA, and problems on the road. Ie weather, accidents.

You don't get it. For old people saving $2 makes their day. Ever seen who shows up for the dinner early bird special at 4 pm to save $2 on dinner all to eat dinner in the middle of the day?

I for one go out in the late afternoon do avoid both rush hour traffic, and the crowds at the restaurant. Saving a buck or two is just a bonus.

On Fri., 06/07/19, we purchased 100.029 gallons of diesel fuel at $3.499 per gallon for a total cost of $350.00. The last time we bought RV diesel fuel was on 11/02/18 which was 8 months & 1 week ago. Wow, we are loving this slow traveling lifestyle.
