KOA began accepting reservations Monday, March 1, for its first ever "Come Camp With Us" day on Friday, May 14th.

At least 20,000 campsites will be made available free of charge. "It's a no-strings-attached giveaway," according to Mike Gast, communications director for KOA, Billings, Mont. "It's just a gift early in the season, a way to get people camping sooner."

The camping sites can be reserved by accessing on KOA's website or by clicking here.

There are about 300 of KOA's nearly 500 parks across the U.S. and Canada that will be participating in the giveaway, which could become an annual event. Some Kamping Kabins will also be made available for free as part of the promotion.

Hmmm....are they going to limit the number of people as usual? How 'bout a special fee for not cancelling within 48 hours? Free is great but I think they're trying to help their tarnishing image out. Just my dos centavos.

What a weekend,Rain.Rain,Rain! Friday, the first four hours were great.Got to the site and set up. Kids got to play awhile then the rain started about 5:00. and didn't stop till Saturday afternoon. good thing we picked up one of thoes video games at Walmart for the kids. This kept them buisy while trapped inside. Then we went fishing at the pond. They had a shelter next to it that kept us out of the rain. The kids got to do crafts while fishing with the campground host. Then a hayride. The campground was nice except it was too close to the highway and you could constantly hear the traffic. The sites were so close to each other that when the 5th wheel next to us pulled in and sent his slide out over,I thought the fire ring was going to cook 5th wheel for dinner! Sunday was cold and windy so we spent the mornning in the camper and at the arcade. Alittle bike riding and it was time to pack up. All in all it wasn,t too bad but I dont think we'll mark this KOA down as a favorite. Like I say, "A bad day of camping beats a good day at work anytime!"

They're running it again, third year in a row. This year it's on Friday, May 12, 2006.

You can camp at a KOA on Friday, May 12. According to their website, they're offering campers throughout North America more than 30,000 RV sites, tent sites and KOA Kabins ABSOLUTELY FREE at more than 360 selected KOA locations.

Boy! you guys can sure be bought cheap! So much for boycotting the ARVC member campgrounds (re: ARVC pushing the pavement parking bans). And KOA is definately a big part of ARVC.

This was on the ARVC website. The link doesn't work anymore but here is the text:

Are You a Victim of "Free" Overnight Parking?

Few problems are as frustrating for RV parks and campgrounds as losing customers to super stores, shopping centers, school parking lots and other locations that offer free overnight parking to RVers.

While those who offer such free overnight RV parking may have honorable motivations, they usually wind up creating unsafe and unsightly public nuisances. Reputable RV parks and campgrounds, who make substantial contributions to their communities, lose potential business to these locations.

Although there is nothing the Federal government can do to alleviate the problem, there is much that can be done at the local level. ARVC is preparing materials to provide help and guidance to its members who are plagued by this all too common problem. The ARVC kit will provide an overview of the problem, explain how to get local government to take action, provide model legislative language that can be applied in such situations, and encourage the formation of a network of RV parks and campgrounds that have been confronted by the problem of free overnight parking.

First I've heard about any boycott.

What's the correlation between a promotional 'free night at a KOA' and RV parks and campgrounds losing customers to super stores, shopping centers, school parking lots, and other locations that offer free overnight parking?
