Interesting, I wonder how one would go about improving the aerodynamics of a motorhome, or a loaf of sandwich bread for that matter?

I seem to get my best mileage at about 61-63 mph. I generally have to top 57-59 to shift in 6th. I set the cruise on about 62. I say about because the speedometer and the info center say 62, my GPS says 63. Unless there is a pretty good hill the Allison doesn't have to downshift and I maintain 1650 - 1700 rpms.

Dieselclacker: eat the bread. That way it offers no wind resistance on it own.

This is NOT TRUE for all vehicles!

I had heard this and for the first year on the road fulltime, I strictly followed the 55mph rule.

Then I decided to purchase one of the ScanGaugeII devices that another member recommended, and I found out that at 55mph, I was only getting on average of 6-8mpg.

If I sped up to between 60-62 mph I moved my miles per gallon up to 10-12 mpg. This device only cost me $150 online, and if you factor in the cost of fuel, I saved that in a few tanks alone.

A set standard of 55mph isnt FACT for every vehicle. Everyone should use some sort of computer to average their actual MPG before they just automatically assume 55 is their best bet.

How are you reading average miles per gallon with the Scan Gauge???

All I can read is instantaneous mpg.

8 mpg @ 55 mph vs. 12 mpg @ 62 mph is hard to believe. What RV are you driving???

Another secret to fuel economy is to TURN OFF THE CRUISE if you hold the throttle so that she will run her lower RPMS and let your speed drop going up a hill and speed back up going down the other side, you'll see your best fuel economy.

Right now, I've been rolling along at 51-52mph, and was getting 10.1mpg going over a few steep hills, all while running the A/C and every window in the camper open. Not too bad.
