Amazing that they can buy hundreds of dollars worth of items for almost nothing!

Extreme Couponing: TLC

I look at coupons more closely now every week.

I love the show as I now have it set up in my DVR.

Yes. It amazes me the savings they get. But it takes WAY more time & dilligence than I want to put into it to get those types of bargains. I usually manage close to $30 savings off a $100/wk grocery bill by buying what's on sale & match that with coupons, which the store doubles.

Where the heck would I put all that stuff. Many of the familys are almost buried in items. What about expiration dates? Some of the items must get stale. How many jars of spaghetti sauce can one person eat? It is fun to watch the show but don't have the time to find the coupons or the need for all that food.

I think its really amazing how much they can get for nothing, but the thing that strikes me is that they are all parents. How many carts of fruits and vegetables did you see? None. 100% processed and unhealthy foods.

All the power to them for getting good deals, but you don't base your child's nutrition on what you can get for free. I'm a parent of two little ones under three and can't imagine feeding those foods to them.

That being said, there are great ideas on this program for the essentials: paper towel, dish soap, dish washing detergent, laundry supplies, etc.

Saw a segment of television saying this is causing a backlash with retailers, who are beginning to retaliate by switching to in-store rebates in the form of store credit, limiting coupons to one per item, and limiting quantities. This means you must buy the equivalent amount of goods to realize any savings.(store credit)

Yep, I have heard on the local news they have stopped some of this. Might have been a bad thing this was one TV.

Yesterday, I used these coupons:

Oil Change - $15 off

Hair Cut - $5 off (It ended up being $4 for the haircut - I gave a $7 tip)

Misc. coupons at Walmart - $4.50

$24.50 in total savings just by me happening to go through the coupons last week.

I very rarely use coupons, because I usually don't find ones that are of value to me or my family. My guys really like certain brands of things. it's not a bargain for me if I end up throwing stuff out. I admire folks that can make them work for them.

With allergies to wheat and soy and having diabetes, most of the prepared foods are off limits to me. From what I can see the cupons are good mostly for stuff I do not or can not use. I will not lower the quality of merchandise that I use just to use a cupon. I will pass on cupons.

My wife did save us a real 65% on our shopping. Alot of dry and canned food for backup and we give some away. The extreme coupon shows math doesn't always add up. It actually "pays" less then having a job. The number of hours working on coupons. My wife cant work so its fun for her.

I do not think I would dumpster dive for coupons though.
