Re-roofing on a budget?

So I just recently became the owner of an old (1978) Southwind RV. One of the major issues with it is the leaky roof. I would like to re-roof it (the plywood at least needs to be redone as it's rotten) but don't have the $1000 to work with that it seems is required. There doesn't seem to be any actual damage to the roof membrane, but there's obviously severe leaking around EVERYTHING that is attached to the roof.

Suggestions? Is there a recommended sealant or treatment I could apply to the membrane to save it? is there a way to remove the membrane without destroying it so I could re-do the plywood beneath?

Thanks!

If it's an EDPM membrane, it usually is glued to the plywood. It might come loose, but you'll have to be very careful. Once the plywood is repaired, try gluing the EDPM down again. It should be sealed around all hatches and vents with Dicor self-leveling caulk. Rips or other areas could be repaired with EternaBond tape. The EDPM membrane should be recoated with a a couple of coats of sealant like this:

Ok, so essentially, be EXTREMELY careful removing it and it should be able to be reused? Sweet! Saves me a bundle if all goes right!

If it's the original roof, it's 37 years old. A lot will depend on how it was cared for in the past. It would really contribute to a future dry roof if you could buy a new EDPM membrane.

check some of the local rv repair places and see if they have a roof material they order for someone and then they didn't use it. Usually you can pick it up for 1/2 the cost of new.
