Renting your RV
I have been contacted by a reliable person who wants to rent my 2011 Coachman Freelander class c motor home for a few days. He wants to keep it for 4 days at a NASCAR race track near my home. My motor home only has 3500 miles on it it so it it like new.
The questions I have are: 1. Is this a good idea? 2. If I agree, what should I charge? 3. Is my insurance coverage good for this? 4. What sort of written contract do I need?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Honestly I'd never consider it, especially with this big rig there are too many systems that can get screwed up. Even when we had our 29' Coachman Freelander I wouldn't loan it to my daughter and son-in-law unless they first went with us for a weekend for training purposes.

No, I don't even have to think about it. And especially to a Nascar race. If this person is a friend, he won't be for long if he 1. wrecks the MH. 2. Spills drink and food or worse gets sick all over your new MH. I could go on with more, but I think it is a really bad idea.

On no. 2, I would charge twice that rate.

NO way, NO how! I have family ask to borrow mine and they know nothing about RV'ing or how to properly take care of it, and quite honestly I have found in my life that people who borrow something don't take care of it the way you would, because it isn't their 'toy'. Even if they know what they are doing, I just tell them it's the one thing I have I don't loan out. If they really want the camping experience I will loan them my tent.
That might cause a few hurt feelings when I say it, but not nearly the hurt feelings that will occur if they screw up something I take very careful care of.

I hardly know all the systems and in what order to push what buttons and how much of what do I use when and how often....
I don't think a weekend with me would be enough. Maybe I'm selfish because I like my stuff working and running and in the same shape I left it in, but No, Heck NO!

I had a friend ask me if I would rent him my 40DP last week to take one or two week trips occasionally. Even though he's a retired trucker, I declined because of the complexity of all of the house systems.
I would trust him not to damage it or to pay for anything which might get damaged but the risk of things going wrong is just too high IMO.

Scenario: Your best friend in the whole wide world asks to borrow your motor home, which you just paid $ xxx,xxx for. With every good intention they take it, drive onto the infield, pull off into a hole, saying, "Oh! darn. I think I can just "rock it out, and get it unstuck." At which point the "rock it", accidentally burning up your 6-speed Allyson transmission. It costs $ 500 for a wrecker to pull them into the shop and $ 20,000 to replace the transmission, which afterwards is "never right".
Your friend is going to say, A. "Oh! I am sorry! I didn't mean to do it. You DO have insurance don't you?"
or
B. "Oh! I didn't mean to do it. Here is a check for $ 20,500 plus a little something
for your trouble."
You might as well go completely out of your mind and lend it to your Kid!

I agree. Most of the family I have who have asked to borrow mine are probably way more mechanically skilled than I, but honestly I see how they treat the things they own, and they might be mechanically inclined or know how to drive a rig, but they have never RV'd. They might be a good driver, great tech, but a bit too sloppy to be taking my rig out for a weekend. Even though I figure they'd probably pay for anything they messed up, I don't want to take that chance. My rig is the one thing I have that I practically baby in the way I take care of it. I know that no one else is going to do that.
So no is always my response. lol
