We just signed up for this at our Costco after we verified no dollar limit on cash back.

If anyone is a Costco member and you apply for The True Earnings Business Card from Costco & American Express you can receive 5% cash back on any purchase under 75 gallons as well as 3% cash back for dining out, 2% for traveling and 1% everywhere else including Costco. If you are not a business owner you can get the same benefits but the savings on fuel is at 3% not 5%.

So if we pay $4.60 a gallon it's actually going to cost us $4.37 or 23 cents less.

There isn't an annual fee from A/E but you still have to pay your Costco your membership fee. The card will also serves as your Costco membership card with your picture on it as well.

Good luck

The 5% is listed as gasoline will the savings apply to diesel fuel?

Diesel does count. Just double checked. The charges comein as fuel. Type of fuel is not listed. I questioned them and they said Flying J is only listed as fuel.

Yes, Diesel & Gasoline count the exactly the same. Each fillup cannot exceed 75 gallons at one time. A/E doesn't care what type of fuel so even if it said Diesel on your bill your fine.

You'll receive one check from A/E-Costco at the end of the year for all savings such as food, lodging, fuel, etc.

First eight months of the year I already got over $300.00 just in fuel rebates.

The rebate comes in February in the form of a check which can be used to make a purchase at Costco, and the balance will be returned in cash, or you can cash the check at Costco.

AMEX has had the cash back card for quite a few years. One does not need to belong to Cosco to receive cash back benefits. Currently it is called Blue Cash. I've been using the old style green cash back card for many years. I get "cash back" in a statement credit in the month after my anniversary month. The cash back is built at a 5% rate with purchases of fuel, groceries and drugstores. 1.5% is earned on all other purchases. This is after one spends $6.5K on the card. Before that the % cash back is less. For me, it works out fine. I have some fixed expenses that come due the month after my annaiversary month. This means I jump right into the full 5% and 1.5% cash back right away. This card is available with out belonging to Costco or any other organization. The cash back card has no annual fee. There is no limit to the cash back reward that can be earned.

AMEX has as many credit card plans as Thousand Trails has different membership plans. I post this to encourage folks to go to the AMEX site and see what they have to offer. Choose the card that matches your spending habits and a reward that matches your lifestyle.

GaryKD,
I have a PentFCU card that gives back 5% as well provided it is used at the pump. Usually at Flying J and Loves you have to go inside to pay which negates the discount.

Does the AMEX Blue Cash give the 5% if you go inside? Or is it also a card that must be used only at the pump for the discount?
Dick

Hi Dick,
One can pay at the pump or go inside, it is your choice. AMEX does not care. I have never been to a merchant that required anything special because I was using an AMEX card.

I always use the truck lanes at the Flying J. I have the J's RV Real Value Card. Used first, the card unlocks the pump. I do go inside to get my receipt. However, by the time I get to the cashier, the receipt is hanging from a carousel. I just sign the receipt, leave the last copy for the cashier and am on my way.

Thank you Gary. Sorry for delay in answering - out of town on business.

I already have an AMEX Honors card and am hesitant to add one more card to the road arsenal. At some point, the credit score starts to take a hit and then everything suffers. That is one of the reasons I didn't sign on for a Flying J CC. Guess I'll just look for alternate sources for fuel.

Safe travels.
Dick
